a rapper name Slick Rick? If so, who is he? Would I know any songs of his?

hmmm I wonder if its the same guy. DH says this one was a rapper in the late 80's and 90's and I should know some of his stuff. LOL I have no clue. I didn't listen to rap then and only selectivly do now.

its funny bc i LOVE hip-hop and have been listening to it since the late 80's. DH LOVES hip-hop too and hes big on current artists and many from the mid 90's but surprised to see he wasnt familiar with others from late 80's to early 90's. The other day i saw monie love on tv and i said 'omg havent seen her in forever' dh said 'whos that' i also looked at him like 'are you serious?' Then i said something about 3rd bass and again he didnt know who they were and i was really shocked. Anything from the mid 90's and on he remembers well but when he was alot younger guess he didnt listen to hip-hop, probably started around HS sometime to listen to it.

I used to love 3rd Bass too....get the Gasface.

DH's band found out last night that they are opening for him on 9/18. And DH was sooo excited and I was like ummm never heard of him. LOL. And DH was like 'YES YOU HAVE!!' and started nameing songs and trying to sing them for me. have noooidea where the show is but I guess there are a few other people playing as well. But he is like super excited! I am too- just wish I knew who the dude was.

ETA: Thanks for the links. Im at work, but will play them later. And then DH will be impressed and think I know who the guy is.

that was my reaction, how do you not remember her? hahahaha and its funny bc i started singing monie in the middle to him, and then also mentioned the song ladies first with queen latifah and thats when he said oh ok.

3rd bass i was even more shocked by. DH is somebody who knows alot of old skool songs but like i said mid 90's and on i guess, he knows all the words and really into it so i guess i expected him to know even older hip-hop artists.

Also as we were flipping through the channels an old kid and play movie was on, and one of the guys from young black teenagers was in the movie so i said oh YBT, dh remembers them as far as 1 song and the name of the group but never knew this guy was in the group, i think he didnt expect it to be a white guy

i think i have to give him a very old skool lesson

say that you also knew he was in jail for about 5 years, so it can show you know who he is.

YBT was Tap the Bottle, right? I think they were mostly white, weren't they? I remember that song playing at my junior prom....god I'm old.

It's funny cause growing up all me and my friends listened to was freestyle and hip-hop. DH grew up in the same area as me and went to a different elem and middle school (we ended up in the same HS school though) and all he and his friends listened to was like, heavy metal and classic rock. He grew to become a hip-hop fan in HS but I def. out-school him in the song catalog memory. But he can't stand freestyle and I still blast it if it happens to come on in the car and he's like, 'this is AWFUL!!!'. I don't care I still love it.

hahah its ok not everybody was into it. I remember most of them but its mostly what i listened to so thats why. Im sure there are other artists if i mention you would remember too just that you dont realize it right now. Some popular ones are NWA, dr. dre, ice cube and eazy-e were all part of that group. Busta rhymes also came from a group in the late 80's called leaders of the new school not sure if you remember him from that. Then theres also L.L cool J who is still around now
