DH LOVES hip-hop too and hes big on current artists and many from the mid 90's but surprised to see he wasnt familiar with others from late 80's to early 90's. The other day i saw monie love on tv and i said 'omg havent seen her in forever' dh said 'whos that' i also looked at him like 'are you serious?' Then i said something about 3rd bass and again he didnt know who they were and i was really shocked. Anything from the mid 90's and on he remembers well but when he was alot younger guess he didnt listen to hip-hop, probably started around HS sometime to listen to it.
He doesn't know Monie in the Middle?????

Also as we were flipping through the channels an old kid and play movie was on, and one of the guys from young black teenagers was in the movie so i said oh YBT, dh remembers them as far as 1 song and the name of the group but never knew this guy was in the group, i think he didnt expect it to be a white guy
i think i have to give him a very old skool lesson
YBT was Tap the Bottle, right? I think they were mostly white, weren't they? I remember that song playing at my junior prom....god I'm old.
It's funny cause growing up all me and my friends listened to was freestyle and hip-hop. DH grew up in the same area as me and went to a different elem and middle school (we ended up in the same HS school though) and all he and his friends listened to was like, heavy metal and classic rock. He grew to become a hip-hop fan in HS but I def. out-school him in the song catalog memory. But he can't stand freestyle and I still blast it if it happens to come on in the car and he's like, 'this is AWFUL!!!'. I don't care I still love it.
yeah that was definitely their most popular song and they were mostly white
so funny but same with DH, we grew up in the same neighborhood. I did listen to hip-hop and freestyle at that age all the time too. Hes good with hip-hop now but definitely not before 94 or so. And yes he HATES freestyle, he gets annoyed if its on the radio and i leave it on. At 19 he got heavy into clubs and also listened to ALOT of house and techno which at that age i wasnt into at all, hes not into it anymore but he brings up old skool songs from clubs and although i was going to clubs i just dont know them by names or what dj. Some i know but not like him.

Kid in Play is what i think of when I hear late 80's rap. That and Will Smith. LOL thats as far as I got into rap back then. LOL.

Busta rhymes also came from a group in the late 80's called leaders of the new school not sure if you remember him from that. Then theres also L.L cool J who is still around now
I know the obvious ones. LOL- Busta Rymes, LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre. Not the others. Does Vanilla Ice count?

Im not sure if he is on tour or not. DH's band is just opening for the one show. DH named other people last night- again- no clue who any of them are. DH seemed to know who some are. I dont know if they are big on the same level as this Rick guy or not. Maybe some other local people. I think there are like 4 acts. Hopefully he finds out soon where the show is. I'll let everyone know incase they are interested in comming out!
