NWR: How could people do this? Updated again....

Angelo gets up to buy bagels this morning, and tells us that the driver's side mirror on the car that his parents JUST gave us is busted. He used my car, and I decided to check out the other cars on the block, and saw that someone smashed our neighbors mirror as well!

This was done deliberately - there were beer cans all across the street and our neighbors had a party last night. We called the police, and he went to the party neighbors and there was no answer. He told us he would come back later and get to the bottom of this (Go Suffolk county cops!!!!)

REALLY - HOW could people destroy others property? Don't they know how hard it is to survive on LI without extra expenses like vandalism?

As drunk as I've ever been in my life - I have never thought - hey - let me go make some expensive damage on someones car...

I am so pissed!!!

That's horrible! I never understood the mindset of those that think of things like that - I'm with you - I've been drunk, but never thought of doing malicious things....

I don't blame you one bit. Id be mad too. Here last year almost every car was robbed on my part of the block. They even left neighbors stuff in our car and our stuff in another neighbors car - it was ridiculous!

i hear ya. someone smashed my dads window a few months ago. he parks his car on the street and this is the third thing that he has had happen to his car (his window was smashed and someone thru ketchup at his car).

just a few weeks ago some kids thought it would be fun to stand on the top of my car (on the sunroof). my dad saw them and chased them down, but he couldnt run fast enough to catch them. a few days later i noticed scratches on my hood from where they stepped.

i believe in karma. think of it this way, you say there was a huge party on your block. the person was probably blasted out of their mind. hopefully they have an awful, awful hangover this morning!

I know - and the neighbors are nice - the ones that also got their mirror smashed - he helped Angelo duct tape the window back up (luckily our mirror wasnt smashed, so it may not be as expensive )

The neighbors across the street have kids in their late teens and 20's, and they always have loud parties. The parents are nice - Angelo once even founf their dog that they lost, and they were so grateful....

I totally agree!!!! 4 years ago when I bought my first car a VW Jetta, someone removed the plastic VW emblem from my front grill!!! There was huge grooves in the grill from I assume a screwdriver and they broke the whole back of it the get the emblem out! It cost me $200 to replace!! All that for a piece of plastic??? People are so stupid.

Re: NWR: How could people do this? UPDATE

Turned out the neighbors with the party were teens who were not allowed to have the party. The 18 yr old girl is trying to find out who's responsible - and her mother said the daughter will pay the bill for both mirrors, since she was resonsible for the party....

Arrgghhh Liza I feel your pain! My younger daughter's car was sideswiped on the street near her apt. at school and her mirror demolished, her front fender ripped, then before she could get that fixed someone backed into her rear bumper in a parking lot and also took off! She called in tears and said am I on candid camera or something??

You have to wonder how some people can live with themselves, to do that kind of damage and not own up to it, or even worse, to do it maliciously! Sorry for the trouble with Angelo's car, I hope it will be an easy fix!

ETA - I didn't see your last post, that the parents are making the daughter responsible for fixing the damage. I truly APPLAUD them, they are teaching her a valuable lesson about taking ownership of your actions!!

Hey Liza- at least now you don't have to have the added expense. I hope her parents punish her but I doubt it. If they did she wouldn't be hanging with people who get drunk and violent. Sorry that happened to you.

That's very mean spirited and nasty. Some people are so inconsiderate and don't take peoples feelings into account when they do careless thing.

Well - they came over this morning - the daughter was supposed to come too but all of a sudden she was sick... They then said she was shy and she'll write us a note...

I told them (nicely) - no - she should come over when she's feeling better face to face - she should learn from this experience and be accountable - the parents looked at each other annoyed (but they were hardly in a position to say anything back...) and said she didnt know them, wouldne let them in the party, so they were pissed, etc... And I said - when you have a party, you are responsible - plain and simple. We ALL had to learn from our stupid mistakes...

so they agreed (after agreeing to pay as well)

I'm sorry - but mommy and daddy can't come over and speak on her behalf - maybe she'll think twice and call the cops if kids wont leave her party inseatd of throwing them out and letting them do whatever to the surrounding area!

Write a note! Are you kidding?!?! Becasue she's 'shy' ?!?!?!
She obviously wasn't too shy to throw the party in the first place!!!
I'm glad you're teaching this girl a lesson by holding her accountable for a face-to-face appology, since her parents are willing to let her skate by with a note.
