NWR: How far and long do drive or commute to work?
So I have an interview tomorrow in the Bronx. The job sounds awesome except for the Bronx part. I live on the South Shore near the Nassau Expressway and to be honest it is a pia getting everywhere. I was commuting about an hour and fifiteen minute to my previous job by car and it was hard when there is heavy traffic or weather conditions were bad. At least it wasn't also 11 a day in tolls. I hopstopped this place and it's 2 hours by train. I say thia all to say am I spoiled or travelling over an hour and half one way for work too much?

I drive 37 miles each way and it *****!
The bridge *****. I couldnt handle it truthfully.

I feel ungrateful!!! I like the concept of working as an SLP with high school children but I am not sure I am prepared for the commute. I also see children after school in my area and work at a clinic two nights a week. I did the math on driving to the Bronx it's 220 a month which is 2640 a year.

I commute from Northport to Manhattan daily. It is 2 hours each way door to door. So 4 hours each day.
It takes a bit to get used to but honestly, you get the hang of it. I've become an avid reader now, and I find after a stressful day I look forward to my downtime on the train where I can just read and unwind.

Long Beach to downtown Manhattan every day is about 1 1/2 each way. *sigh* I hate it!

I drive 2 + hrs from smithtown to white plains in westchester. It def suxxxx but you get used to it.. If the pay makes up for the travel expenses do it.. In this economy you take what you can get ya know? If it weighs you down, look for something else, but don't let the commute stop you, you may love the job.

I live 3 miles from work, so I either bike or hop on the bus which takes 5 min. I don't drive because parking is . But personally, an hour and a half would be too far for me, especially with an extra 11 in tolls!

hour to hour 15 mins for me and FH. We commute from jersey to the city and we drive and take the train.
when we were house hunting, we hopstopped everything to make sure we wouldn't have to commute more than hour and half.
It's very draining.
eta: we also pay 140 for parking every month not to mention monthly train pass
FH and I talked about me possibly getting a job in jersey in the future when we have kids but it will be really sad to leave the city

i drive about 20-30 minutes to work, depending on the weather. i could never do a long commute, regardless of the pay. it's too taxing on my mental health lol

When I worked in Manhattan it was an hour. Now that I work on the island it is 30 minutes and I love it!! Although I used to read a lot more on the train.

i work about 25-30 minutes from home to work i don't know if i could ever commute 1-1½ every day. i might have to next year though. we plan on moving to brooklyn, near bensonhurst/bay ridge area and thats a good 1 on a good day to the city.
its funny how sometimes, you don't have to live in Long Island and the commute can be just as long and painful. s u c k s

i drive from south shore LI to Manhattan everyday. I take the throngs neck bridge and cross bronx. Lucky (i guess?!) i work at ungodly hours so there is no traffic!
Usually takes about 30 minutes in the AM (I leave at 5:30!) and coming home about an hour.

i live in queens; and work in nyc-my commute is less than an hour on pub. transit.
2 hours is a lot IMHO. What time would you get off? if 5 pm; then you wouldn't get home until 7; maybe later? My co-worker lives out in Port Jefferson or somewhere close & commutes on the LIRR. Her train ride is almsot 2 hours and she's always running out the door at 5 (we don't get off till 5:30) and running in late after 9 (we start at 8:30). But she still leaves her house at like 7am! It's really got to be worth it-if theyr'e offering enough $$$ to make up for the commute!

Ive been spoiled..
I live in downtown Manhattan, my first job was around wall street it took me 5 min to get there, now im at midtown and takes me 15-20 min max..

from door to door, about an hour and fifteen min - that's cuz i give myself time to drive to the train station and look for parking so there's waiting time and i walk from penn to midtown. otherwise, i'd say under an hour

On a good day, from door to door about an hour each way, but very rarely are there good days. So it's typicallyan hour and a half. About 3 weeks ago, i hit my record with 3 hr and 22 minutes

I just moved out to LI to live with my FH, my commute went from a 20 minute walk to an hour and a half via the LIRR and PATH. I HATE that I have to commute to Jersey for work. It's killing me, but I can't leave my job til we're married (I'm on a working visa). Uuuuugggghhhhh I'm so tired every day and I just hope it gets better, but I don't think it will til I can peace out of my Jersey job! Oh and btw, I work non-profit so the pay in no way compensates the commute.
