my babies are morkies & no one that I know that have had allergies have had any reaction to them.

The plus side is that they have have not fur so hence less shedding (the have no undercoat) and less dander.

the 'downside' to hair vs fur is the grooming bills for the cutting & being sure you have stuff to keep them warm because well being covered in hair is not as warm as you would think if you are under 10 pounds..lol

morkies? what is that exactly. I love your puppies so i am really interested

Aww thanks. They are looking awfully proud when I told them you complimented them.. haha

So a Morkie is a Maltese + a Yorkshire Terrier.

My black one favors the maltese side though she is black. the white one with the stick up ears looks like her yorkie side.

LOL sometimes I think of getting rid of FH and getting a pug. I'M KIDDING! But if FH wasn't allergic I would 100% get a pug, I wanted one since I was 10

I'm FH was allergic I'd get rid of him before I'd get rid of Harvey.

I kid, I kid.

Jess, I totally recommend the wirey haired dogs - wheaten terrier, west highland terrier, etc. Those tend to be hypoallergenic

I have a maltese and people who are usually allergic to dogs are totally fine aorund her. Hypoallergenic dogs have human hair so this makes it tolerable for people who have allergies to dogs because they produce less dander and they hardly shed at all.

ETA: I got Bella at American Kennels on Lexington avenue. DONT GO THERE. She has so many problems, ear infections, two leg surgies due to a genetic condition, allergies, etc. That place should be shut down.

Find a reputable maltese breeder that breeds champion line dogs or get a mix, like a maltipoo. They are alot healthier than pure breeds.

Also look into http://www.petfinder.com/ You can adopt pets there in need of homes for a small adoption fee. They have maltese dogs too.

thanks for your response. I would love nothing more than to rescue a maltese (or any dog for that matter) but when you adopt they don't guarantee a pure bred and with FH's allergies I could never take that chance. Did you rescue your maltese?

I see why you be uneasy to adopt then, but no my dog wasnt a rescue dog, I got her at American Kennels in the city on Lexington Ave four years ago. I do not reccomend anyone to buy a dog there, they treat their puppies so horribly and they breed sick dogs together and then sell their yorkies and maltese for thousands of dollars. Ofcourse i found all of this out afterwards. But I actually sued them in small claims court and did win back money, i would love for more than anything for them to be shut down. So becareful where you buy from. But honestly i dont see how they couldve guarenteed me that my maltese was pure bred either. If you want be 100% certain yours is pure bred then you should buy directly from a reputable breeder in your area.

Here are AKC registered maltese breeders in the NY area. But jsut b/c they are registered doesnt mean these dogs are automatically healtier, so you should check them out and meet in person and ask a ton of questions:

http://www.akc.org/classified/search/index.cfm

is that the one right by bloomies, i think on like 62nd street. Its real popular and i always look at the puppies when i am there. I was actually thinking of going there bc somebody told me they do it through breeders, some lady who got her yorkie there. But hmmm good to know

Yes its between 61st and 62nd. You could google 'American Kennels NYC' and just read all the reviews on this place. This place is a horrible, yes they do get their dogs directly through breeders, but from breeders that breed puppy mill style. People think its a reputable place b/c its location and cute puppies, but its not. My dog had fleas when we took her home, we obviously didnt know, we found out after the groomer told us.

Dogs Considered Good For Allergy Sufferers
If a breed is not listed here, it does not necessarily mean the breed is not a good dog for allergy sufferers. I am sure there are many more breeds that I am just not aware of.

Please note: One person's allergies may vary greatly from another person's. It is always wise to visit the dog to see if you are allergic to it before you bring it home. Hypoallergenic Dogs

Bedlington Terrier
Bergamasco
Bichon Frise
Bichon/Yorkie
Bolognese

No problem, I'd be happy to help.

Let me first say I can't believe we have 2 dogs i the house, FH was dead set against dogs, & anytime I dragged him to a pet place he wanted to immediately get out b/c of the smell or noise.

So when I took him here, he said this is the only place he will get the dog from & if you would believe he's the one after that that wanted to immediately get teh puppy. HE Adores my lil black dog.. her name is Amor. she has a little patch of white on her chest, The other one is amber (she is her spunky shadow) & she is technically FMIL but she is with me all the time so there

Anyway I digress. ..

I will fm you all the details about the place & the process.
I love the place personally & would definitely get another if my life would not probably pop from all that craziness before the wedding.
