Hi -
you can get any type of poodle and be safe! They do NOT have dander on their skin and they have human like hair that grows like humans...
Good luck!
FH said his childhood friend had a poodle and he was allergic to it
Why does he lie?!

jess
there is one dog i know of that is
it doesnt have 'fur' which most dogs do
it has hair - like humans
maybe you can google it??
I think that's what they say the hypoallergenic dogs have, hair like humans instead of fur. I know they say that about the maltese

Re: NWR: hypoallergenic dogs
My Aunt has a cockapoo (cross between a cockerspaniel & a poodle) and she's hypoallergetic. FH has big time allergies to animals (cats & dogs) and whenever we go over there he is fine
So cute!!

Re: NWR: hypoallergenic dogs
I have a maltese and people who are usually allergic to dogs are totally fine aorund her. Hypoallergenic dogs have human hair so this makes it tolerable for people who have allergies to dogs because they produce less dander and they hardly shed at all.
ETA: I got Bella at American Kennels on Lexington avenue. DONT GO THERE. She has so many problems, ear infections, two leg surgies due to a genetic condition, allergies, etc. That place should be shut down.
Find a reputable maltese breeder that breeds champion line dogs or get a mix, like a maltipoo. They are alot healthier than pure breeds.
Also look into http://www.petfinder.com/ You can adopt pets there in need of homes for a small adoption fee. They have maltese dogs too.

My little man is a hypoallergenic dog. We have a Scottish Terrier. We didn't get him for that reason and I don't know anyone who has a severe allergy to dogs, but I just thought I'd throw in another breed for ya.

thanks for your response. I would love nothing more than to rescue a maltese (or any dog for that matter) but when you adopt they don't guarantee a pure bred and with FH's allergies I could never take that chance. Did you rescue your maltese?

FH said if I got a chinese crested he's moving out (I think he was traumatized from how to lose a guy in 10 days) and the mexican hairless are a little scary, if I'm thinking of the right dog

I see why you be uneasy to adopt then, but no my dog wasnt a rescue dog, I got her at American Kennels in the city on Lexington Ave four years ago. I do not reccomend anyone to buy a dog there, they treat their puppies so horribly and they breed sick dogs together and then sell their yorkies and maltese for thousands of dollars. Ofcourse i found all of this out afterwards. But I actually sued them in small claims court and did win back money, i would love for more than anything for them to be shut down. So becareful where you buy from. But honestly i dont see how they couldve guarenteed me that my maltese was pure bred either. If you want be 100% certain yours is pure bred then you should buy directly from a reputable breeder in your area.
Here are AKC registered maltese breeders in the NY area. But jsut b/c they are registered doesnt mean these dogs are automatically healthy, so you should check them out and meet in person and ask a ton of questions:
http://www.akc.org/classified/search/index.cfm
Whnn you go there you need to scroll down and click continue to free breeder classifed search.

Re: NWR: hypoallergenic dogs
my babies are morkies & no one that I know that have had allergies have had any reaction to them. The plus side is that they have have not fur so hence less shedding (the have no undercoat) and less dander.
the 'downside' to hair vs fur is the grooming bills for the cutting & being sure you have stuff to keep them warm because well being covered in hair is not as warm as you would think if you are under 10 pounds..lol
