NWR: I am so sad...

My mom told me that they are putting my dog to sleep next week because her hips are bad and she keeps falling. They say she can't walk anymore without shaking... I know they think they are doing the right thing, but I am so sad..... I won't get to say g'bye. We have had her for 14 years

I'm so sorry to hear that. We had to do that to my childhood dog back in April. Time does heal!

This is a very bittersweet poem... we have it over my dog's urn at home.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

my mom wont buy her medicine...partly why I am mad. my parents just dont want to deal with a dog anymore, so they aren't looking at other alternatives

14 years is pretty old for a dog, and if the poor baby keeps falling down, it might be the best thing.

I'm so sorry. As you may know, my cat passed away a week ago today. I was devestated and felt so sad. But I am feeling a lot better now. Don't get me wrong- I still feel sad, but it is not as all encompassing as it was last week. His loss will be painful, but that is life. Look around at the life you gave him, and the life you have, and the upcoming joy you will have.

Thanks girls! I know it will only get harder until they actually put her down next week ... but all your encouraging words really help.
