NWR: I am so torn/confused over a coop we found.....
Not only do I have to have root canal in about 25 minutes, but I have to deal with making a huge decision too!We found a coop in Bay Ridge that we love. It's beautiful, new, pretty floors, walls, kitchen, bathroom, it's big and everything. Problem, parking. If anyone knows Bay Ridge, you know the parking issue there. FH and I need our car, I have family in Long Island and not having a car is not an option. But this coop does not come with a parking spot.
What would you do? If the coop is everything you imagined a first apt to be, but you can't park a car to save yourself! SO CONFUSED!!!!

If you love it, can't you just rent a parking spot? I've lived in horrible parking places for a while- if you love the co-op, I say start looking for a rental spot close to it.

You will need to rent a spot. Can you swing that with a mortgage?

I say get it!! It is sooo hard to find housing now. You can always rent a spot. My brother & Sister both lived in Bayridge and had problems with parking...they would just keep driving around until they found a spot....not fun but always an option!

Ask the other tenants in the building what they do with their cars. Is there a garage nearby? Maybe you could rent a spot.

I definitely say rent a parking space if you can afford it. I dont think a parking space should stop you from giving up the home if it is so wonderful, although finding parking is a pain especially in the winter.Let us know what you decide to do. Good Luck

I know how you feel. We live in the city and parking is a nightmare. If you can swing renting a spot then absolutely go for it but if not, I understand your confusion. We deal with the nightmare of finding parking everyday and it makes you crazy.

My husband and I live in a coop in Bay Ridge w/o parking. You learn to live w/it. Yes it entails sometimes driving around a bit, but if you love it I wouldn't pass it up. Is it a good deal? Coops in Bay Ridge are hot right now, we just bought ours last month. I'd take it, but I've always lived there and always dealt w/parking issues...I'm used to it! Where in Bay Ridge is it?

I'd try speaking with some neighbors or a real estate agent in the area to find out about renting a spot. Maybe the seller would know too. Some people deal better with trying to find parking. I was in Bay Ridge about a year ago to visit a friend and the parking was a total nightmare for me. Maybe you won't mind it.

I definetely would not let the parking issue stop you from buying a coop you love! Bayridge is beautiful & my FH lives there and has a problem with parking but I wouldn't call it horrendous (sp?!)-he just keeps driving around and around--it's most definetley a pain in the a$$ but don't let that stop you! GOOD LUCK & let us know what happens!!
