I did it!!! I've been an admin assistant for 5 years and I'M DONE!!! I've posted a couple of times that i'm a part time pastry chef...well...I just got a job in Manhattan as a lead pastry cook for a NEW restaurant that's opening next month. I accepted the offer today. I can't even DESCRIBE the feelings i have!! I'm insanely happy, in shock, and terrified at the same time. The part that scares the H*LL out of me the most is i'm now making half my salary *EEK!*...and with the wedding coming up it's a little scary, but there was no way that I could pass this opportunity up. This is a HUGE thing that really just fell in my lap. But FH is totally supportive....and money doesn't mean a thing because i'm FINALLY living my dream job. I gave my notice on Friday - my boss is SO happy for me (I love the HECK out of my boss, he is SO wonderful)...and in two weeks I'll be getting paid to do what i love. Oh my GOSH!!!!
I just wanted to share with you guys since you all rock! :)

You'd be surprised...a lot of really good chefs learned on the job and have not gone to school. But training aside, there's no subsitute for a good educations so yes, I went to school for it. I worked full time and went on the weekends, 8 hours a day. I went to The Institute of Culinary Education in Manhattan from 10/05 to 5/06 (my externship was from 5/06 to 8/6) and it was the BEST decision i've ever made in my life (not counting the time I said yes to Jack when he proposed. LOL). They offer recreational classes aside from the career classes too and the school is AMAZING. I absolutely love being a chef. If you're interested in baking, I say do a little part time stint at a bakery you like and see if it's for you. :)

That is awesome, good for you. I wish you the best. I would have loved to go into the food business, thats my passion but I dont know how to bake or cook maybe its kinda late though. Maybe if I get tired in the financial world I will pursue it.
