NWR: Interviewing for NYC schools

Hi,

Can anybody tell me what I might be able to expect?? I am interviewing at PS/IS 194 in the Bronx on Friday. I know or I have heard that it is more laid back than interviewing on LI but this is my first interview and I am so nervous....... HELP, lol!!!

it depends....

i have had varying experiences.... some NYC schools are like 'you have a pulse so i'll give you the job..' others were just as hard as some interviews i've had on LI. be preapred for questions like how do you handle bahvior problems? how do you handle students that are unmotivated? how do you involve parents? etc. etc.

the city is also realyl into the teachers' college readers and writers project. i would look into that if you don't know about it.

good luck!

It really depends on the school, and the area that it's in..I have been teaching in the city for 5 years now, and when I was hired I don't recall being 'interviewed'. Now, the whole procedure is very different and it still varies from school/region. Sorry I couldn't be of much help..good luck!

It is NOT laid back.. My friend interviewed with a school in the Bronx 2 months ago. With the new contract you first meet with a board of members for an interview... the principal, AP, other teachers... etc.. i think a total of 7 are there.

If you get called back you need to do a demo lesson in front of a small group of people..

I'm stressing doing that!!
