NWR: Is anyone good at apartment decorating?

Since you gals are always so creative...

FH and I just moved into a huge 2BR apt. We are using the smaller bedroom as ours and the second BR as a 'den/guest room'... we moved in this weekend and set everything up...

BUT...

We wanted to keep our BR really simple, we are both awful sleepers and heard that it helps to not have a 'busy' BR. All we have now is a bed, two nightstands and a little corner tv stand with a TV. It is so naked in there that it echos! Does anyone have any ideas on how to 'warm up' a bedroom cheaply without the ability to paint the walls? . I wish I could get Oprah's Nate over here!!

I hope the creative ladies can help!

lots of candles, picture frames, try to get an earthy vase and place dried flowers in it, and warm-toned curtains/shades

if you are awful sleepers I say take the TV out, its a distraction. Maybe put it in the guest room.

If you are awful sleepers, go to Brookestone or the Discovery store and get a sound machine.. FH and I swear by them..

if you have wood floors maybe get a big area rug under the bed to bring a little color into the room..

I am also a big fan of candles.. what about a French Poster Board to put pics of you and FH up on??

Re: NWR: Is anyone good at apartment decorating?

try putting up something interesting on the walls...you don't necessarily have to use pictures or paintings- we have an antique Veitnemese (sp?) wooden window that we put a mirror behind and mounted on the wall. Our bedroom is really small, but a few interesting pieces have really made it homey. Try warm colors and wood tones also! Good luck!

And I second the sleep sounds! I got a clock/sleep sound combo from bed bath and beyond and it's great!

I agree. I would try looking into Ikea.

Re: NWR: Is anyone good at apartment decorating?

well, in a way you can have a little of nate: check out his collection at linens-n-things!! it's great. i think you should do a lot of decorative pillows, a few throw blankets... plus, candles and some inexpensive art work for the walls (will get rid of the dreaded echo)...

i suggest homegoods as an inexpensive place with great accessories and believe it or not marshalls has some good finds (you gotta dig but you can)...

pick a color as your neutral base (beige, light browns, ivories) and then accent with another color that pops (a sage green, a wine red, a nice blue, or even a warm orange)...

a few lamps on the nightstands, some pics of your and FH along with the candles i mentioned above and some nice linens added with art work on the walls-- should do the trick!! HTH

edited: just read the suggestion about a sound machine-- we love ours b/c it has a rain setting and we love the sound of the rain!! that def helps!
