I never had luck with careerbuilder or those sites. I agree that the specialized field sites are better Idealist.org for anything non-profit related, or professional associations (trade/industry groups) like Association of Fundraising Professionals (can you tell what field I work in?). Newsday and the Times aren't bad though. You can just pick companies and look at their web sites (most have employment areas). But I think the best is networking. Tell everyone you see. Even post on LIW and ask if anyone knows of a job in basket weaving (or whatever you want to do - probably not basket weaving, but who knows).
