NWR: job stuff - kinda long - need advice

As many of you know I'm relocating to Cambridge (Boston) in a few weeks. So I've been up here interviewing and hanging out with FH for the past week (he's at biz school up here).

Last Thursday I had an interview and it went really well! They told me they were 'impressed' and that they would call me next week (this week) to set up a second interview. YAY! The next day (Friday), I got an email from them saying, again, that they were impressed with me and wanted me to email them my references. So I did at like 5:00 on Friday.

Saturday I was in ridiculous pain and had to go to the ER. Winds up I have a kidney infection (IT *****). So I've been pretty immobile for the past few days.

Now I know they haven't called my references yet (I checked ) , and I've emailed the woman at the job to make sure she received my references. I didn't receive a response. So now I've sent two emails (the one with my references and the follow up) and have heard nothing. They haven't called yet to schedule an interview. I wish they would just call me back and let me know that they at least RECEIVED my references! argh!

But the reason I'm asking for help is because I need to go see my doctor in NY. I'm still not well post-ER visit, and need to get checked out again (My insurance doesn't cover one up here). But I haven't heard anything from the job and don't want to leave if they want me to come in on Friday. Also, since I've emailed them twice and my last email was 'Hi....did you receive my info??' I don't want to be too pushy and have to explain my situation further.

Thoughts? Thanks for your advice!

What should I do??

WAIT FOR THEM TO CALL YOU BACK IF THEY DON'T CALL BY FRIDAY...THEN COME BACK TO NY TO SEE A DOCTOR...IF ALL IS WELL WITH YOUR VISIT...THEN GIVE THE JOB A CALL AND SEE IF THEY WANT TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT.....

First off - I'm sorry to hear about your kidney infection. I had one a few months ago, and it was the worst pain I have ever felt - EVER!

I would call them. Don't send anymore emails - I actually don't like communicating by email anymore when I'm trying to accomplish something important. Things can be easily miscommunicated. Just give them a call, say you wanted to make sure they got all of your information, and let them know you have to leave town for a few days. I wouldn't share why, but just let them know they can reach you by cell phone or email. I don't think that will be harassing them too much.

HTH.

Yeah, maybe I should call them? But isn't that overkill? 2 emails AND a phone call?

I agree that you should call them. I had a urinary tract infection that went to my kidneys a few years ago, and it was the most ridiculously awful pain ever. So I really sympathize with you. If you need to go to the doctor, go. I think if you called the potential job and explained your situation (without sounding overly dramatic and like you're trying for a 'sympathy vote'), they wouldn't be like, 'Oh that Bonnie girl is so pushy , always calling us telling us that she has to go to the hospital!' No way. And if your last communication with them was on Friday, I don't think it's unreasonable to follow up with a phone call 5 days later. Do it! And take care of yourself, feel better soon.

Call them! Sometimes emails go unnoticed - I know when i am busy I can get dozens of emails a day!! They will admire you for your interest in the job, and also you can explain that you will be out of town for a few days. Don't even tell them why - its always best not to give any personal information!!
