Re: NWR: Long Island Teachers

hmmm.. I am not sure.. I am thinking they are all pretty standard. I could be wrong. Do you def want to stay in the teaching field? I was going to say that maybe you could choose to sub in districts you are interested in eventually getting a job in.. put your foot in the door,... hope that helped.. I heard Pat Med pays well though....

Good luck!

BTW: are you currently working in a school now?

sorry! I just read your post and realized you said you were a teacher... sorry!

yes, I am working right now in an excellent district, but can not TAKE the politics. I know its all over. I did enjoy middle school more than elementary but want to take a year off and think about it. I may look for another middle school job. I did sub in Pat Med, they didnt pay too good and I grew up there. Sorry for anyone who still lives there, (I do) but its not as nice as it used to be.

yea, I hear that it wasn't as nice either... I think it's a good idea to take off, give yourself some time to figure out what you feel comfortable with. I hear ya on the politics....

It is IMPOSSIBLE to get a job as a teacher these days!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Middle Country does not pay that well!

Central Islip, I believe is one of the highest on long island.
I would also suggest if you are going to sub that you pick two large districts...so you get called more often!

Another area you may want to look into is to do contracting work. I used to work for an agency that contracted teachers for Early Intervention and CPSE. The contracted teachers took only the spots that they wanted and worked as many or as few hours as they could handle. I know there is also the option of doing evalutions but I don't know what the creditenals are. I know there is a lot of ABC work out there if you are interested in that field and subject matter.

I just read that last post and I am also a substitute teacher...

What do you mean by 'ABC work'?

ABC is a behavioral program and technique used for children with autism. It stands for something but I don't remember what.

Please don't get me scared about how hard it is to get a job! I am graduating dec 2006 (like a week before the wedding) with a degree in early childhood/early chi special ed and elementary/elementary special ed from st. joes! I hope i can find something!

And by the way, finding summer work is not fun either.

As a math student teacher I was told I would have NO PROBLEM finding a job on Long Island as a math 7-12 teacher and let me tell you, after sending out 60 resumes I have only gotten 1 interview.

Thank god other states are so willing to take NYS certified teachers...South Carolina and Florida here I come!!!!

Re: NWR: Long Island Teachers

I'm sorry but I am graduating in two weeks from Dowling with my Master's in Elementary Education. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and I still have not received any calls for interviews anywhere for the September 2005/2006 school year after submitting my resume EVERYWHERE!

I even planned my wedding for the winter recess thinking I would have a job by then. Unfortunately, it seems like I will be subing when I get married!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am actually now trying to get into a Nursery school or Catholic school for a job.

It is soooooooooo difficult on Long Island to find work as a teacher!!!!!!!!!!

Any suggestions out there?????????????????????????????????????????????
