NWR - Migraines

unfortunately i suffer from bad migraines.. they really are painful & put me out of commision. I get nauseous, dizzy & have to go lay down in a dark room. I take prescpition meds but they take awhile to take effect.

in addition to the pain i am in.. i get so upset cos i feel like i wasted day.. like today, i was in bed all day.. such nice day & i really had a lot to do.

Anybody else suffer from them??? any suggestions??? i was thinking of accupuncture.. i heard it really helps.

at this point i am willing to try anything

i hope i don't get one on my wedding day...

I get them too. Thankfully, I haven't had one in like 2 months, but when they come they suuck. I am on prescription meds too. The only thing that ever helps me is sleeping, and sometimes the pain is so intense, I can't even fall asleep. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Have you had your eyes checked? Maybe it could be sinuses? Dehydration. . .do you drink enough water?

I used to get migraines brought on by eye strain believe it or not, now that i have my glasses it is almost completely gone.

You should go to the doctor if its a consistent thing!

I get them too esp when the weather changes drastically... like these past couple days

I've tried the meds, and yes they suck... I now use excedrine migraine and they do wonders for me with no side effects! If you havent tried them, you really should! Other than that, sorry I cant be of much help...

i went to a doctor & had an MRI. had my eyes checked.. unfortunately, seems like they are herdiatary. My mother gets them, my aunts get them. i feel the most pain right over my eyes.

i guess i am looking to prevent them.. so i guess i need to eliminate stress...lol... yeah right.

sorry, I know how horrible they can be!! That stinks that they can't figure out the problem! Just try and get lots of rest before your wedding. . .and have some pain meds on hand just in case haha!

Re: NWR - Migraines

Regarding the meds that you take...do you take them when you get a migraine, or do you take them daily?

When my migraines were at their most severe (4-5x a week), my Dr. prescribed a medication that I took daily to prevent the migraines. It did work. I believe it was a blood pressure medication that also worked for migraines. Maybe talk to your Dr. about changing your prescription.

I also cut out caffeine. The first few days it did trigger the migraines because my body was going through withdrawal, but after a few days, I was fine. I did notice a decrease in migraines over time.

Now, they're more hormonal than anything. They seem to change as my body changes (teen years to now). Now I get them a few times per month rather than per week. I can manage with Excedrine Migraine now. But they still stink if I don't catch 'em in time.

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well today .

FH gets bad migraines too and he has to do the same thing. Usually he can feel one coming on and he takes the meds before it's really bad. There have been times where it was soo bad he had to pull to the side of the road. (he also gets the blinding in his eyes from migraines)
When he is home and has a migraine he puts on a wool hat that covers his whole head and ears and it makes him feel better.

This is what I was going to suggest as well. When I was in college I wasn't used to taking notes in huge lecture halls, and I was straining my eyes on a daily basis, not realizing I needed glasses...I would get them and be out of it, I wouldnt even want to get out of bed to use the bathroom. I got glasses and haven't had the problem since.

I get them really bad too. I was told that its because I have too much estrogen. How they know that I am not sure.

FH was so upset that whatever I took stopped working after my body got used to it, did a search online. He found an article that said Chelated Magnesium helps with migraines. I tried it and I have to tell you that if I feel one coming on I take one of them (400mg) and 2 migraine strength advil or tylenol and poof its gone. I will take it the next day too just to make sure. If I miss the window of opportunity then well it works a bit but not as much.

I get terrible migraines. My doc rx'd me zomig- it's a nasal spray that works wonders!!!

I've been having luck staying away from chocolate (boo!) and red wine becuase those induce migraines on me.

I hope we're all migraine free on our big days!

i have been suffering with migraines since i was in the second grade. i know exactly how you are feeling. it is terrible, and can really put you out of commision.

since ive been on the same meds since i was in 2nd grade my body developed an immunity to them when i was in highschool. since highschool i have been back and forth to the doctors for yearly MRI's.

my doctor finally suggested me going off my meds for a few months to kind of rid my body of what i had been taking .. and we tried something new.

if your meds dont seem to kick in, maybe it is time you see your doctor and try something different...maybe the same thing has happened.

thankfully, i now take one everyday (3x) and one at the start of the headache. and they seem to have went from 2-3x a week to maybe 1-2x a month. big improvement.

honestly...i get them once a month...and they are HORRIBLE...and last for hours...

thursday i had one...started at 5pm at work..slowly..and then by the time i got home and off the train i was almost throwin up and i couldnt keep my eyes open.

it does the same thing..i feel lik im out of commission and i had an appt to make a deposit that i went thru anyway.

i dont do much for them..just take something to relieve them. i should get them checked out...insurance hasnt kicked in yet.

i get them too.
i wish i had some advice, but nothing works for me.
the only thing that does is a medication that i can no longer get.

This sounds horrible, but ti really works. Ben-Gay on the back of your neck and temples. Put alot on the back of your neck and VERY little on your temples. Be careful not to get it on your face!!!!! Gone in like 10 minutes.

I teach high school in Queens and I have 3 kids at home and this is the only thing that gets me through sometimes when I get home.

A friend at works gets HORRIBLE migraines. She told me her doc prescribed her a very small dose antidepressents because theres something in them that help with migraines. Did your doc tell you anything about that? She says it has helped her a lot. Hope you feel better
