What kinds of medicines do you use when you have a migraine? I used to get them and took Imitrex, but I have a friend that is really suffering and wants to hear what her other options are.

The best thing is Imitrex is have both the pill and the little pen thing that you give yourself shots with which I personally feel works better.
I've also used Excederen Migraine and that works too but not when they are really bad.
Wow!! I use Immitrex too, and I had no idea thee was a shot you could do

OMG- Don't ever take Topamax! I was on it for about a month, it made me so unbeliviably emotional, I was NOT myself. I lost my appetite completey (that's not like me at all). I could cry on command! I was on a low dose, but this was my experience!!
As far as Topamax, I tried it for my migraines and it made me as dumb as a stump! I could not even think clearly and had to call my dr. b/c I felt so dumb and he took me off of it. It lowers your IQ, literally, that is a side effect.
Since I suffer with them about 6x per month, right now I am on Verapamil (blood pressure pill) that they find helps prevent them. I have been on it for about 3 months, full strentgh and I do find that it has cut them in half (3 per month instead of 6). I have tried taking Imitrex, Zomig and Axert (triptan drugs) and the Imitrex made my migraine 10x worse and Zomig made me feel like my head was on fire and Axert made me really sick and nauseaus. I have really bad side effects to these meds.
Most of the time, along with the Verapamil (daily basis), if I get a severe migraine, I take Fiornol or Fiorcet. Other than that, I take Excedrin Migraine if I am at work and feel it coming on.
Migraines sukk and I am HOPING and PRAYING that I do not get one on my wedding day! That is a fear I have....
