My friend is pregnant and just recently lost her job. Her job will carry her benefits for another month but after that she wont have any. She thought of getting them from Cobra but it turns out its going to cost more money then she can offord. I know there are things out there that will help pregnant women who arent married, but is there any alternatives for women who are married and pregnant with no medical insurance? TIA!

She should check out NY's Family Health Plus (just google it for the website). There are also more health care alternatives for people who lost jobs thanks to the stimulus bill that was signed a few months ago, probably through Family Health Plus. I'm keeping your friend in my thoughts....

She can try planned parenthood they free prenatal care or income sensitive payments depending on the situation.
Can her husband put her on his insurance?

I'll tell her to look into planned parenthood. Thanks! They looked into getting on his insurance but because he works for a very small company it would cost like $600 a month and they just dont have the extra money. They are now having a problem paying there mortgage because she lost her job. I feel so bad.

Has she looked into the Cobra subsidy? I know for me Cobra was ridiculously expensive too, but the federal government will now pay 65% of your cost so you only have to pay 35%, which in my case was definitely affordable.

Depending on where she lives she can go to a city hospital and they will either get her on PCAP (medciad for pregnant women) or reduce her payment based on a fee scale.

I don't know about her pregnancy situation, but when I went off my parents insurance between college & getting a job, this was the least expensive thing we could find. It's called Healthy NY. Hope things work out!! :( http://www.ins.state.ny.us/website2/hny/english/hny.htm

Her husband makes too much money for her to qualify. It pisses me off because if she werent married and knocked up she'd get all the aid possible. But because she got married first, got pregnant and then lost her job she gets nothing! So unfair!!!

I agree with you!!
But I also think she should try planned parenthood. She needs to go to the nearest one and tell them she was laid off. They should def be able to help her some way. Best of luck to your friend.

why can't she be added to her husbands insurance??
They will help set her up with Family Health Plus and explain to her what else she could possibly be eligible for.

I was going to suggest this too...an $800 payment becomes less than $300. Definitely have her look into this!!!!
