For all you girls that have a dog... I just wanted to tell you what happened to my pup on Friday...
I woke up to a whole pack of gum gone, she took the gum out of my purse ans ate the whole pack.
There is an ingredient in Sugar Free gum that causes dogs livers to fail and also drops their blood sugar levels.
After bringing her to the vet Friday morning they had to make her vomit and put her on all kinds of fluids, when she got there her blood sugar was 80, after a few hours it dropped down to 71 and later on they checked it again and it was so low it wasn't even registering on the machines. (normal blood sugar for a dog should be between 100-150 so it was really low) They had to put her on Glucose to keep her sugar level steady so she didn't have a seizure.
After being on the Glucose over night she was finally able to go home but she wasn't cleared yet. She had to go back this morning to have her liver function checked again, being that she wont be cleared for at least 72 hours after the gum eating incident.
She seems fine so far but we just hope that her liver will be ok.
On top of all that she has an ear infection... my poor puppy.
I just wanted to give you all the heads up on the gum, the ingredient that causes all this is XYLITOL, its in most sugar free gums. The ASPCA is actually working on getting this ingredient band b/c of all the death it has caused.

OMG that's horrible. Glad the dog is alright now though! You have to be careful what you leave laying around. One time we left a stick of butter on the table. My pomeranian jumped on the chair and grabbed the whole stick of butter. She was alright but had really bad gas LOL. So yea, doggies are like little kids- so curious and get into anything!

I will not be having any gum in the house what so ever!! I would rather have stinky breath than have to go through all that again!!

When my dog was a puppy she ate 3 beers... yes thats right. Ate the can and all and then washed it down with a sock. Needless to say we spent alot of time in the vet and I totally understand how upsetting it is!

yea she was drunk! We rushed her to the vet and they gave her some stuff for her tummy and she ended up being fine.. we thought she would need to get surgery but thankfully she didn't. I have no idea how she digested the cans!!
