I am currently looking for a new jobs since i am relocating to the island. My apartment is in West Islip and a job called me today and said they are in Medford. The woman in the message said 'i dont know if you are willing to travel that far, but please call if interested'.....Can anyone give me an idea how long it will take me with traffic and without to get to Medford?
Currently i work barely 7 miles from home and its so nice. Moving to the island and all the traffic stresses me out.
Update:
I posted another question on my last post.....clothes question.

The one thing you have going for you is that you will be going against traffic. I live in Bbaylon and work in Yaphank, so I basically have the same commute as you - it usually takes me about 25 minutes to get to work. HTH!

Traffic is nuts, but i believe from islip to medford you are going against the flow of rush hour traffic so it shouldnt be too bad.

Re: NWR: New to Long Island
It shouldn't be too bad because you are going against traffic...should take about 25 minutes

Re: NWR: New to Long Island
Honestly you're going to be going against the traffic in the morning, and against it at night.
You're heading east as everyone is heading west for work.

Re: NWR: New to Long Island
ok next question...what to wear? I know i should wear a suit.......but i have been interviewing people for the past 2 weeks for my job and no one has come in with a suit on...just like a nice top and slacks.....are suits not in anymore or something or does it depend on the job you are going for.....it may sound stupid but i havent done the job interview thing for almost 8 yrs now.

I guess it really depends on the position that you're interviewing for. I never wore a suit for any of my interviews, most offices are business casual nowadays. But it wouldn't hurt to dress up a little to give a good impression.

It;s not bad about 20-30 minutes if that.. depends on traffic at rush hour but anywehre On LI will be about that much and sometimes more becuase of Rush hour.. drive there one day and see how long it takes you then make the call if you want the job or not!

Re: NWR: New to Long Island (update)
I have a similar commute (brookhaven to amityville) but I go with the flow of traffic and it takes me about 35 mins (and it is a little bit further). So I would say no more then a half hour since you are against traffic.
One good thing about the Island is there is always another way to get to where you are going.
As for what to wear -- wear a suit. I don't know what you do but if i interviewed someone and they didn't come in a suit i would immediately be turned off.

Always wear a suit...even if it is casual. It's the first impression you are giving you're potential employer, and i think a suit should be worn.

That is what i kept thinking because every person that came in to interview for my position i made a comment on the fact they didnt have a suit on. I guess ill be pulling out the suit for the interviews.....oh how i hate getting dressed up...lol.

I totally believe suits should be worn at interviews regardless of the dress code in the office.
