nwr: obama's speech

i'm not one to tout my political opinions, but watching this speech was the first time i've ever been inspired by the words of a politician, whom i generally write off as greedy and corrupt. this is a speech of historic significance. this is the most important election of our lifetime thus far. regardless of whom you plan to vote for, or whether you intend to exercise that right at all, please take a moment to listen carefully to the true roots of the issues that are sucking the life out of our country--the issues that affect us all whether we realize it or not.

Obama's Speech

Eh- I am still not voting for him. He is a communist. I am Cuban and I know that if anyone idolized Che Guevara- there is a huge problem. He has a huge picture of Che over a Cuban flag in his office. Also, his Preacher???? Give me a fricken break. After seeing that video last week, I hope no one votes for him. That man is trouble.

I agree with flairforfashion.
His preacher is a peace of work. How are we ever going to move ahead when we keep taking 10 steps back. If he really does not agree with his preachers statements then why not go to a church where you do...Hmmm

I agree. I do not usually preach about my politics either, but I am starting to feel stronger and stronger about this election. He has gone to a church for 20 years that supports and idolizes LOUIS FARRAKHAN. I cannot see that as completely separate from who he is. He is a great speaker but that does not mean that everything he says is true. He does not have my vote.

He is an amazing speaker- I won't take that away from him. But, I think he is a very dangerous man.

Dangerous is the right word. Sorry, I am not jumping on his bandwagon. I am afraid of where it will take me and my white, Jewish family.

We need someone who is concerned about uniting people but forget about that for a sec. We need someone to turn around this economy and clean up disastrous Iraq! I don't mean by finish what Bush started but clean up the damages. Bring the troops home and let Iraq build on it's own.

point taken about his background. i'm really not trying to endorse the candidate. his speech, however, makes a lot of points that I think people should talk/think about (i.e. complex roots of racial bias, corporate greed, special interest groups influencing government, the middle-class squeeze, etc.)

He does speak very well- no doubt about it. But a lot of his words mean $hit. I think he is probably the most racist out there. Ever since his preacher surfaced- I have come to that conclusion about him.

Re: nwr: obama's speech

I think any of these politicians can be dangerous if given enough power to corrupt. I will be honest to say I haven't followed the election completely but I will say this will be a monumental moment for years to come. Being black and a woman has made this process quite difficult but I feel and hope that Obama will be a fresh and better candiate for this election.

We can all play nice and sing cumbaya (sp?) and act like race and sex have nothing to do with this election but lets be realistic--It does. That doesn't mean we are going 10 steps back, we just need to recognize the problems that are still occurring in the new century.

Also Obama did state that he did not agree nor endorse the words of his preacher but still went to church where he preached. I understand that to some this could be contradictory but from someone who has grown up in a church with many many issues. If I just up and left each time my pastor or deacon said something I didn't agree with I would have been to 30 churches by now. It's about loyalty and having a strong faith in God and be able to know when to draw the line.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I feel that Obama would be a far better President and articulate President than Bush.

And for the young lady who stated that his name reminded her of Osama (hate me if you will) it's comments like that, that bring us 10 steps back!

I just hope whomever is elected can clean up this mess Bush got us into and bring these troops back to their families and bring some sort of stability and camaraderie in this country.
