Ladies, FH and I decided that after the wedding and HM we are going to come back and buy a puppy.. We want a little yorkie but if we fall in love with a maltese that works too lol
I have been researching like crazy, but wanted opinions.. can anyone recommend where to purchase a healthy happy puppy??
Thanks!

Go through a breader! Dont buy one in a pet shop

Re: NWR: Puppies
please don't buy through a breeder or a pet store- try petfinder.com
theres so many rescues out there that are for specific breeds and these dogs desperately need homes. And theres tonnnns of the little dogs because women buy them and have them as their little purse companions and then get sick of them and give them up.
im not trying to be preachy btw....it just makes me sad when people will spend $600 for a dog when theres perfectly healthy ones that are on the verge of death bc their previous owners were too irresponsible to take care of them.

I second Petfinder.com there are a lot of puppies that are listed that breeders sometimes surrender to shelters because it's too much work... You can find a little puppy there... Best of luck.

Re: NWR: Puppies
While I think that rescuing a dog thru petfinder or other organizations is great, when I was looking for a yorkie I did buy from a pet store, I had many reasons for looking specifically for a yorkie, some of them superficial (I had a yorkie growing up, I love the breed, etc.) others health related (they are hypoallergenic, don't shed, etc.) In any case, I was not able to find a yorkie for rescue so I bought my darling Daisy from a pet store in Brooklyn. At the time there were no breeders locally that had litters but I would say, make sure whatever pet store, shelter, breeder you go to gives you a health gaurantee and the ability to bring the puppy to your own vet to be checked out (if you live on LI and need a good vet, I have a great one in Dix Hills). Daisy was absolutely the best thing I have ever spent money on and the light of my life! Healthy, smart, energetic but not hyper and annoying like a lot of little dogs and just the most loveable dog in the world! Whichever route you go, you will LOVE the new puppy, there's no way you couldn't with their little button faces! Good luck, if you have any questions or anything feel free to FM me. Here's my little girl:

Re: NWR: Puppies
Thanks Ladies... I actually already tried petfinder.com and they dont have any yorkies or maltese in my area right now ... we want a purebreed dog and either of these two dogs for the fact that they are small and so is our apt lol so no big dogs plus both these breeds are hypoallergenic and dont shed and I get allergy shots twice a week as it is, so i def need a dog like this.
I found a few breeders in NY, but some dont have litters and others are almost as bad as pet stores with their polices and their crazy prices ... you know breeders are not supposed to charge you more due to size and color, but all the ones that I have been in contact with do and charge alot more.. does anyone know of any good breeders in the ny area? We are willing to travel upstate and stuff or even NJ.
Thanks to everyone for the recomendations!!!!!!!
