at work, do you vent up (to your supervisors/managers) or down (to those below you)?
just wondering whats more common...
my boss said you are only supposed to vent up, but i dont think ive ever done that.....

I vent down...and at the same level.
I think if you constantly'vent' to someone above you'll look like a serious whiner who hates their job. My boss would HATE if I vented to her all the time.

i guess it depends on your definition of 'vent' .... if it's just general 'i can't believe this jerk' sort of thing, i never ever share that with my boss ... only with people on my same level (nobody below me anyhow)
but if it's something serious that somebody did wrong (eg: suck at their job) then i'll vent up

this.
sometimes you have to vent about work - not necessarily wanting something to change.
but if there's an issue that's changeable -- vent up.
and make them few and far in between . i.e. make them count.

i try not to complain about anyone to other co workers (even though i really really want to) but I cant really vent down because im one of the UP people,
so i complain to FH he wants to kill me sometimes but oh well its either that or i get fired!

I work for my dad so everyone vents to me and I try to be on their level and I vent to my dad and try to be on his level. Fh also works for daddy and when we vent to eachother all help breaks lose!!!! Moral of story if your gonna work with family which probably isn't a good idea make sure the $$ is worth it! If I could only take my own advice lol

Same for me too. Although sometimes my boss will apologize b/c he shouldn't be venting down.
