Re: NWR: rent or wait to buy....

I would say do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Me and FH just signed lease on a new apartment that's a few hundred dollars more a month. We could've stayed in the apartment I am i now, but I wanted to make a fresh start with him and be in a place that we both picked out. Maybe we wont' be able to buy a house right away, but we'll be happy- also, we don't know where we want to settle, so we decided to rent for a while.

Re: NWR: rent or wait to buy....

IMO I would stay. We will be living in multi-family house that my FIL's own. This was their way of helping us out with the wedding. They know how much we want to buy a house so they are letting us rent one of the aprtments for next to nothing. If you decide to stay in your family's house you have more of a reason to save money faster and buy a home. That's the way I look at it.

Re: NWR: rent or wait to buy....

All I can recommend is really think it through. Are you going to be comfortable living in the basement? How long do you think you'll be living there? 3 months, 2 years? As long as you and FH agree and are willing to weather any storm, it'll all work out. What I mean by weather any storm is... let's say you 2 agree to live there for 1 year. During the year life happens and your 1 year plan turns into a year and 1/2 - or 2 years? Is that something that you both will be comfortable with?

I'm just looking at the stiuation from a realistic point of view. I moved out in August to live w/ my Mom to save for the wedding. We 'planned' to move in together by October so we could live together a year before the wedding. Hi, as you know it's December, and it looks like we'll be waiting until March/April now to move in. It's a little frustrating at times, but I'm rolling with the punches. Life, it happens sometimes.

Still debating the rent vs. buy

First I want to say THANK YOU, to all the ladies that responded. I am still stuck on this one. I feel if I write about it I may sort it out. My dilemma is complex. I live with my poppa. He is a widowed now. He really does not want me to leave, but I will not have a private life here. It will be dinner for three every night. I am craving some privacy with my FH and we wont have it here. But if we stay here for at least a little while we can save for a house. So I have to decide do I want to start my marriage off with hardly any privacy, and the obligation of taking care of my grandfather, or do I want to start fresh with my FH. I love my grandfather, and I feel badly leaving him since my nana just died less than a year ago. But at the same time I want my own life...but I also want a house. I am so confused, dont know what to do.
