Original post by pandafish519

Hi girls.. so here is my question... i've heard a few different opinions about this topic so im looking for some help...

when you have been in someone's bridal party... what have you given as a wedding gift if you gave one at all?

When my sister got married 2 years ago I gave them $300. I was limited on funds also because i was in school full time and only working part time. Give what you can. If your sister knows your financial situation she will be grateful for what ever you give. I know my sister and BIL were.

Well, sometimes the girls got together and got the flateware or china and other times we just got individual gifts like regular guests although i would always buy a more expensive gift because I was in the party

I would like this. I wouldn't want a lot of money from someone who I was very close to, and I knew couldn't afford it. Dishes or something personal would mean more.

if i gave her that i would i hate that i can't afford to give her something crazy because she is my sister, but i work at a non for profit under the diocese of rockville centre, they don't pay much and i have my own wedding to save for that i haven't been able to put anything substantial towards during the past few monts with her shower and stuff. it ***** but i can make money appear out of nowhere! even though i did find a $10 bill yesterday next to my car!! it might have been mine to begin with, but i'm using it as a sign that i will be coming into money!!!

2010 bride here:

i was just in a wedding in july & i gave less then i normally would have given. from engagement party to wedding & everything in between it cost me over $1,500.00 to be in the bridal party. i know thats less then other people spend but i am a full time student & only work part time. i have already told my sister (MOH) that i do not expect any gifts from her. her help is all i need. she is in nursing school & that is a big expense. i don't mind an IOU. i will also be telling the rest of the bridal party that we will not be expecting any monetary wedding gifts from them.

I don't expect presents from my BMs.

I believe I gave 200 for my sister. It probably was low, but I had put a lot of money into the wedding, and I was in school for majority of the engagement not working full time, so things were tight. I don't expect much from my BMs either, though mainly because they're all students/children save my sister, who might just retaliate haha.
