Have you used one before? Has your house burned down in the process?
So I got a new job and because of the commute home I'll be rushed on time to make dinner so I've been thinking about a slowcooker. Set it and let the food be done by the time i get home. I'm worried though that when i get home my house will be done too.
Husband offered to cook but when he cooks he also dirties 18 bowls in the process (no matter what he makes)... and then I do the clean up.
Funny how I give notice and the first thing to cross my mind is how to make dinner in time. Priorities priorities.

Re: NWR: slowcookers...
I have a Rival crockpot that has 4 settings....all of which turn to 'warm' after the number of specified hours. I normally cook on low for 7-8 hours and then by the time I get home it's switched to warm. i've never had an issue. I love it!

i love my slow cooker. i use it all the time. i was so petrified the first time i used it. i actually looked up at my building to my window to see if smoke was coming out when walking back from work. but after a few times, i got so used to it. i can easily use it 3 times a week.

i also LOVE my slowcooker.. i use it all the time. i even have a stack of slowcooker recipes.. lol. i've never worried bout it setting my house on fire during the day.. but i'm not secure enough in it to use it over night.. if the house is gonna catch fire i'd rather it do that without me and my daughter in it..

I love it, use it all the time and have never had a problem- as long as you dont put it on high and just keep it on the warm setting I dont think you'll have any trouble- i dont think they use much electric

Re: NWR: slowcookers...
this is very good to know! I just got an all clad slow cooker as a shower gift and i'm dying to use it while i'm away at work but I'm also afraid of starting a fire.
It's comforting to know that it's pretty safe to use while you're not home

Re: NWR: slowcookers...
I got a slowcooker for christmas b/c my FH complains that I get home too late for him to eat dinner if I was too cook, so I figured I'd use that all the time during the week, so when he got home from work at 5:30 (lucky b*stard), he would have a home cooked meal. Buttttttttt, i've yet to use it! I'd like to start though, but I don't have any recipies.

Re: NWR: slowcookers...
I always worried so 'just in case' I got a nice ceramic cuttingboard/tray to put mine on. It's never even hot.....
#1 hint : onion soup mix packet + veg./chicken/beef broth + water + chicken/beef/pork/etc. + veggies = amazing and oh so easy dinner!

Re: NWR: slowcookers...
this is really good I made it sunday night
INGREDIENTS
* 8 (4 ounce) links fresh Italian sausage * 1 (26 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce * 1 green bell pepper, seeded and sliced into strips * 1 onion, sliced
DIRECTIONS
poke fork holes in sausages and boil for 20 minutes
Place the Italian sausage links, spaghetti sauce, green pepper and onion into a slow cooker. Stir to coat everything in sauce. Cover, and cook on Low for 6 hours. Serve on hoagie rolls, or over rice.
*You can reduce the sauce drastically, this had WAY too much sauce when I made it, I used a 10 oz jar this weekend and it was fine

omg i totally agree. i throw some chicken breast in some water with an onion soup packet and leave it on low. the chicken shreds super easy and i just throw it in some tortillas with veggies and sour cream. so easy. i also make a lot of soups and stews. throw in chicken with diced tomatoes, veggies and potatoes, some herbs and you have yourself a meal for a few days. my latest obsessive recipe has been turkey chili.

I made a pot roast a few weeks ago. I used a McCormick seasoning packet for beef stew...I put that in with the water, the pot roast, potatoes, carrots, onions, green beans, corn, etc....It fell apart....so good!
And I made whole wheat biscuits on the side!
My mom was down and was very impressed...hahah...

Re: NWR: slowcookers...
the heat setting is very low- thats why it takes so long to cook things. People use them all the time while not home. it makes me nervous too, but I got a new all clad one so im gonna give it a try!
