Tell me about it...I'm trying to get myself into the mind frame that if I gain a few, so what? At least I'll be healthy...BUT...I've always been prone to get chunky, and I just lost 30 lbs, and am soooo paranoid about the weight issue.

I didn't quit recently, it's been a little over 2 years now, but I thought that I'd add my two cents

I did gain a lot of weight (about 25-30 lbs), but it wasn't just because my metabolism slowed down from quitting...I kind of replaced 1 addiction with another & took up munching on things when I wanted a cig In my opinion it was worth it, though. I'm a bit heavier now, but my allergies & asthma are A LOT better, so I have more stamina when working out. I sleep better at night, I don't get sick (colds, sore throats, etc) as often...the list goes on. It's still hard & to be honest with you, I still think about smoking several times a week, but I've gone too long now to go back!

Oh & I should mention, I've since lost 19lbs of the weight by munching on better things like carrots & cucumbers (sunflower seeds & sugarfree gum are a great idea too), so now I'm smoke free & almost back to 'normal.' If you're seriously thinking of quitting, I say go for it!! It's hard work, but in the end you'll be SO happy that you did!! Good luck!

I quit last January. I am now addicted to Trident Original. But I didn't gain weight, actually I have been losing because I was able to start running - that's something I definately couldn't do smoking a pack a day :)

My feeling was if I gain a few pounds it's still better than smoking.

It's tough, but you can do it!

FH and I desperately want to quit but it's so tough. But we want to start working out and if we're still smoking, there's no way we can do that. So we're going to try again this weekend.

Good luck to all who are trying to quit!!

I quit almost 2 years ago. I have to say that was hardest thing to do. I exercised when I quit to avoid gaining weight.

I just quit about one month ago. The first week, I noticed I was eating more and gained a few pounds. But I have got back to my normal eating patterns and have dropped the extra pounds I gained.

Now I need to drop more weight!!!

you just need to be aware of what you're eating and make healthy choices when you're craving. drinking was the hardest part at first, but now i don't think twice about it!

I quit in April of 2006 and gained about 20 lbs. I weighed about 110 and was a size 2 and went up to 130 and a size 4. I just lost about 6 pounds for the wedding. You have to make sure you are not substituting food for cigs, which I did...also everything tastes sooooooooo yummy now...

Last Tuesday was my one year anniversary of quitting. I gained a little bit, but not much, maybe 5 lbs.
