It makes sense i guess but its still freaky to me. Then again my grandmother requested my father take pics at her sisters wake. I couldn't get over taking family pictures standing over a casket. But they did that in the old days.

I saw that on the news -- what the H E L L

Both sides of my family are from Puerto Rico -- it's embarassing

It doesn't embarrass me as a puerto rican. It isn't indicative of our culture & even if it was I wouldn't be embarrassed.

Plus, it isn't my family & to each their own. I used to joke I wanted to be mummified & buried like a pharoah, (after watching one too many shows on egypt) I hope no one took me seriously though

I was going to just say that. I heard of stuff like that (I think it used to be in the south more)

Back, I think in the 19th century, they were big on taking photographs of the deceased called a mourning portrait. They would pose them as life they were still living. This remind me of that. Maybe that is what inspired him to request this.

PS. I get creeped out by it too, I never think that they make them look like the person in life for some reason that disturbs me. Plus I don't think it is sanitary to have someone's body just standing in your living room like that.

he was so young to be thinking about that. Kinda strange

I thought the same thing. I wonder if he was sick or something...?

PS - pics TOTALLY freak me out. Dead people should not be standing. And he's like propped up in the corner! Too weird. Blech!

you totally took the words out of my mouth. I think if I walked in to pay respects and saw some dude standing in the corner, I would go over and introduce myself (not thinking its the deceased). Can you imagine if he like fell over one someone or something ...

Wow, I dont think I would want to see my family member like that. Seeing them in a casket is hard enough but embolmed and standing in the corner????? Honestly it really makes me gag to think about it Embalming makes your turn hard and you dont look like you... just eck IMHO (insert shivers and quivers and barf man)

I just think it's horrible to remember someone in that way. You don't want to have a memory of seeing the person deceased. You want to remember their life.....so bizarre.
