NWR: Stopping the Pill

So i've decided to stop taking the pill. I've been on it for over 10 years and am so scared of how long my body will take to adjust for kids after I stop and I was going to stop in 2 months but just decided to do it now...has anyone done this without speaking with their doctor first, or should I speak with my doctor to tell them??

Yeah I guess just to give them a heads up kind of thing.

Yeah I think that you should speak with them - maybe even a nurse over the phone.

I'm stopping right after the wedding. I'm just going to finish off the pack i'll already be into. I just happened to have my annual exam a couple of weeks ago. I told her my plans and she said that once I stop just to start taking pre-natal vitamins. And that you don't have to get prescription ones, you can just take over the counter ones or even just Women's vitamins with folic acid. That's all pre-natals really are...oh and omega-3.

As for prenatal vitamins: Folic acid is very impt. as per my mother who is a doctor and taught a 'Human Growth and Development' course at a college.

I wanted to stop before the wedding myself, but I am worried I will have my 'friend' for my wedding or even worse my HM!!!! Are you ladies (for those not married yet nervous about that??)

I think you should definitely talk to your doctor about this. That way you do everything the right way and they should know exactly how long it takes for your body to readjust after the pill for kids which I really don't think is that long !

I would definetely speak with your dr. My dr told me that you should wait 4 cycles before ttc.

I've been on the pill for years now (for medical reasons) and I've always had this concern. Through the years, I've been to three different gynos and they've all told me the same thing... Being on the pill for a long time does not affect your ability to get pregnant. In fact, once you get off the pill, you are the most fertile soon after. I'd definitely ask your doctor before discontinuing.

Re: NWR: Stopping the Pill

I just went to the gyno about this last month. I have been on the pill 15 years.

She told me:
*Don't stop before the wedding. Keep things as they are until after wedding/honeymoon just so hormoneally I don't have any changes
*Take prenatals - over the counter
*Enjoy this time - no rush
*Be off a MONTH before getting pregs, although not fully necessary.

We are in our mid- late 30s and want to get started right away...I but I want to enjoy my honeymoon and wedding without morning sickness! This will be my last month on the pill...going off the next cycle!!!!
