Can any of you ladies know of anything that helps serious sunburns? I've been using after sun lotion but its not helping. I have fair skin and I sat out for 1 hour yesterday. And I can't pick up my arms all the way. It hurts alot!!!! Thanks

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
SInce I have been in the hospital countless times for sunburn
I would suggest using solarcane to help with the pain and some ibuprofen. That always works the best for me. When I go to the hospital for it, they usually put me on prednisone b/c I can't breathe and to stop the inflammation and than they give me silvadene for all of the cuts I get from the sunburn. Hopefully you won't have to deal with that ever, but the solarcane and meds work well - hth!

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
I have VERY fair skin and practically burn when I walk to the car in the summer. I worked for a dermatoligust for 5 years and the best thing I found is whole milk. It sounds gross but you put whole milk in a bowl in the fridge (so it is really cold) then put a small towel in the bowl, ring it out and lay on the area. It really takes the 'sting' out of the burn. I had a burn so bad one year my whole back was blistered and cracking and the milk helped to soothe it. Has to be whole milk cause of the high fat content!

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
I'm sorry you have to deal with sunburn! All the ladies' suggestions should probably help you out. Unfortunately, after years and years of sunburns, I have found that the only true solution is time (just like for a hangover!) Please use sunscreen in the future! I have already had to have 2 spots of basal cell skin cancer removed.. one of which has left a pretty nice scar in the middle of my chest... ugh! Be careful!!!!!

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
As with all burns, avoid oil-based remedies (butter, petroleum jelly, etc.) because it increases the chance of infection. When you get a burn, you need to hydrate your skin with something water-based to stop the burning process asap. Even if you're out of the sun, your skin will keep the process going until you hydrate. A cool shower usually does wonders.
The best thing you can do for yourself is ease the pain and hydrate. There's a great product I always used called 'ocean potion'. It has lidocaine (same stuff they shoot you with to numb skin for sutures) and aloe and conditioners to hydrate skin and prevent peeling. Not sure where you can get it (surf shop?) but here's a link to their products:

Vinegar, ibuprofen, and yogurt are great suggestions also. Keep in mind that a lot of remedies stick to your skin which will make putting clothes back on very uncomfortable.
I wish you luck! And buy some sunscreen!

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
All these suggestions work. I have a pale Irish skin tone - so I burn when I just walk around and the sun is out. I swear by the Aloe Vera Gel - it's green stuff that you place on your skin after being burnt and it's cold as you place it on your skin, but it helps soothe burnt skin and places nutrients back on your skin to help you heal and feel more comfortable. You can usually get a bottle of it at any drug store, including Target for under $8.

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
Definitely try Solarcaine - I used it after I got a really bad sunburn from a tanning salon (never happened before!!) and it helped SO much.

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
try visting a tanning salon and see what they have or rec. for 'after sun/burn care' once i had tanned and the girl put me in for 20 minutes (i had only worked up to 12min.) and i was literally lobster rd everywhere....i went back that evening after work and immediately they knew what had happened....they gave me a bottle of their lotion for it...it was something stronger than what i would've found at target or cvs because it was intended for sunburn.and an anti-inflammatory of your choice!! (advil/aleve)

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
I would take some cold milk on a soft paper towel and dab it on your sunburn.. helps with the redness as well

Noxzema to cool it, and plenty of cocoa butter to prevent it from peeling

Re: NWR- Sunburn help!!!!
Aloe vera! I use (its clear - no color added) Fruit of the Earth's 100% Aloe Vera Gel. Its really cheap -- like $3-4 for a 6 oz bottle. I'd also use any good moisturizer (with SPF) to help with the peeling. Apply aloe vera or moisturizer several times a day!!
