NWR - tanning?

NWR - tanning?

I know probably lots of you go tanning -- I don't really go tanning, I love my pale skin with a bit of self-tanner and I have no intention of going tanning (in fact, I am the girl on the breach slathering on the SPF 50).... but that is another story.

There is a girl in my office who must use tanning beds like every day because she is super dark and there is no way that is natural (she is a really pale natural blond, and you can just tell it is not natural because sometimes you can see her peeling). She is only 23 and she is starting to get lots of wrinkles, and I am sure doing lots of skin damage too. She is a really great girl and I sort of want to say something sometimes... I am afraid that one day soon a dermatologist is going to find something bad. thoughts?

Ok I so understand Im the girl with spf 30 to 50 as well & still get a dark tan. Its my Italian Olive skin. It just does. My profile pic on here is me after like 2 weeks of summer its crazy! I actually used spf80 the other day the sun was so hot. And i can literally feel the sun burning my skin so i always go under an umbrella. But sun or tanning bed it always has effects. You should ask her what she is doing & just kindly let her know that tanning beds are just as dangerous & harmful to skin as the actual sun. Maybe she would be better off spray tanning. Or maybe she is already spray tanning.?????Since we arent exactly sure. I would be a kind person & talk with her.

Hey. I hope you don't mind me asking but does Thyroid disease have anything to do with your complexion? I am only asking because I have Thyroid disease and was just curious since you mentioned this.

This is a tough call... I know I've told a few people to cut out the tanning (in a nice way) and they all said to me that they didn't tan that much and blah blah blah... its BS! I know they were tanning.

I'm pale but by choice! I want to look nice in 20 years.

I always say to them
If your a tan-a-holic... its ok... just be careful.
I honestly am not a fan of over tanning though.

It depends on your relationship with her. Do you think she would get mad??

Re: NWR - tanning?

a nursing student friend once told me about her tanning bed research, which revealed that the rays actually cook your organs since the skin is not a strong enough barrier to absorb all of them. that was enough. i still tan from time to time if i'm going away and i have to get some kind of base to avoid burning, but the whole time i think my poor liver.

you might ask some gentle questions about how she maintains her glowing complexion and ease into something tactful from there. it's a tough call.

Yea, I am very passionate when it comes to NOT tanning. I am very pale and I don't care. I had skin cancer on my chest and have atypical moles that can develop into skin cancer in my lifetime. It's not worth it. TRUST ME! I have tons of scars on my body due to getting things cut out.

Anyways, I think this is a personal question sometimes and I honestly wouldn't bring it up first. Some girls really don't want to hear it when it comes to tanning.

I think it depends how close you are with her. If she's someone you're friendly with I would say something in a kidding way maybe.

But really unless she lives under a rock, she must know how bad it is for her so I think you saying anything would just get her annoyed.

I'm pale and don't tan...but I dont think you should say anything....its her life and her choice to tan.

I once had a guy at Starbucks tell me not to use Splenda b/c it causes cancer....I responded by telling him that everything causes cancer these days and walked away.

I'm sure he thought he was being nice, but sometimes people should just mind their own business!!!
