I was taking a shower and FH was at the store. Next thing I know a cop was at my door. One of my future step-sons, who is 5, thought it would be fun to show his brother, who is 4, that he knows how to call the police. I was grilled by this cop forever, who then went around to my neighbors to see if there were any problems ( i live in a co-op) I was so embarrassed.

Yes because I had to answer the door in my towel, plus I had two neighbors come over and ask 'is everything OK?' Mind you, FH is a nassau cop and came home and was like 'what the heck happened, i was gone for 20 minutes?'

so, if your stepson wanted to show he can call a cop, why didn't he just call dad????

LOL I wish his logic was that easy. We have been teaching him 9-1-1 because I have very severe food allergies, and just in case something happened and I was alone with them, I wanted them to know what to do. Back Fired BIG TIME.

My nephew did that a few years ago. Except he kept saying mommmy, mommy, mommy into the phone so they thought she was passed out or something, so not only was a cop there, but an ambulance and fire truck as well...... so you can rest easy that you only had one cop

OMG!!!! I know it's embarassaing now, but just think when you son is a teenager and brings home his first girlfriend...you can REALLY embarass him and tell this story.
Seriously though, you know he can call now incase anything happpens... but hopefully he will never have a valid reason to call again

Start keeping a journal of the things he's done so you can embarrass him later in life.

My brother jake did the same thing when he was that age. i think he was younger actually. My mom like you was in the shower, comes out to jake on the phone. She picks up starts apologizing to the woman on the phone and she was a 911 operator. Jake told her that there was someone walking around our house.

A friend of mine, her child called an out of state number and was talking to another child for fifteen minutes because either parent knew what was going on. LOL
