NWR: Trying to be healthier

NWR: Trying to be healthier

Hi Ladies,

I am trying to get on a health kick!

So I realized that I don't eat my full servings of fruits and vegtables everyday, but I sure can pile on the breads, grains and pastas... and I just want to start eating healthier...

So this morning I tried a can of V8!!! Ugh - I had to hold my nose!

Any ideas?

This morning, I packed:

sliced strawberries
baby carrots
green/purple/red grapes

I have 2 pieces of WW light bread, 3 slices of turkey, 1 slice of swiss, FF mayo for lunch. I'm doing the Special K challenge so that's breakfast and dinner.

ETA: I forgot my Yoplait FF Banana Cream Pie yogurt.

I guess packing fruits and veggies will definitley help out.! I have to go food shopping now...

What is the Special K Challenge? I hear about it all the time.

The challenge is to drop a jean size in 2 weeks. So:

Meal 1:
Special K cereal, any flavor, for breakfast with skim milk and fruit.

Meal 2:
Replace another meal with a Special K Protein Meal Bar, protein shake or another bowl of cereal and fruit.

Meal 3:
Eat your third meal as you normally would

Snacks:
Eat two Special K snacks throughout the day.

Drink beverages as you normally would and eat fruits and veggies as additional snacks.

That challenge wouldn't help me much because I would pig out on the Meal 3... the one that you can eat whatever you want!!! lol

But... maybe i will give it a shot, thanks for your help

I usually have yogurt with either strawberries in it or bananas. I find that it keeps me full.

My sister did the Special K diet. She lost some weight but as soon as she went back to normal eating she gained it all back.

That is why I love WW. You learn how to change your habits and it really is not a diet.

I typically try to lose 2 pounds a week by running 2miles a day for 3/4 days a week... then I keep a 1500 calories diet consisting of:

Breakfast: Kashi Go Lean Crunch
Lunch: Salad or Sandwich
Dinner: Whatevers on the stove. Usually I start with a cup or two of vegetables, then meat, then rice or potatoes.
Snacks: 100 calories snacks or fruits (up to 3 a day... but I try to stick to 2)

This helps me lose about 2 pounds a week.

Re: NWR: Trying to be healthier

The special K challenege is great if one bowl of cereal is enough... but I can't!! I've tried it, and I always want a second bowl, lol.

I follow what WW says, and eat a lot of the stufff that its ok to eat, then when I eat the 'bad' stuff, I don't need as much!

For Bfast I have oatmeal nearly everyday, on the weekends, I have an eggwhite omellete w/vegies, or two regular eggs, or sometimes a pancake with an egg (FH loves pancakes, so its been awhile for me).

I really like cooking dinner, so we always would have healthy leftovers for lunch the next day. The meals I cook are for four servings, so there is never any overeating, or I wouldn't eat for lunch the next day!

I try to load veggies into my dinner, rather than as a side dish when I can, and I encorporate beans when I can to cut down on meat.

Fiber one bars are a good 2 point snack, and I always eat them with a big glass of water to keep me full.

Man I could keep going on... I've lost 10 pounds since I got to Greenland, about 20 overall since I met FH last year. I know all about what it takes to be healthy.. sometimes I just don't listen to myself :)

Ugh, I really need to start watching what I put in my mouth also. Since we moved in together in July my diet seems to have gotten a little out of control. At this rate I am going to have to get engaged in leggings since my pants are getting a bit snug.

Re: NWR: Trying to be healthier

I lost about 60 lbs two years ago and have since gained back 30 :( Im trying really hard to diet again and Ive been 'okay' so far but I have really packed schedule and its hard to excercise and find time to eat healthy buttt here is what I did and am trying to do again:

I try to incorporate excercise into my lifestyle.. i have tried the gym and jogging and it lasts a month or two and I get bored. Personally, I charge my ipod and walk home from everywheree, school, work, my intership, fh's house, all of which are atleast a mile and a half. I try to speed walk and also do some light excercise at night like stomach crunches and weights..nothing extreme.. as I lost more n more weight I increase it and when I stopped bc I started grad school the weight all came back on.. followed by unhealthy eating.. ladiess u MUSTTT excercise too to lose weight.. dieting is not enough.

Also I am a firm believer in all those teas that make u 'go to the bathroom'..like dieters tea, 3ballerina tea.. they help with bloatedness and push u along.. not everyday but a couple times a weeek

Other than that I made small changes: no soda or sugary drinks, skim milk in coffee, dont eat late. etc

I need motivation to just stick to this again and I will be okayy but itss sooo hard ughh dress shopping in 6 months!!

Re: NWR: Trying to be healthier

WW is great! I actually joined b/c of the 2010 girls, and lost 20lbs in about 2 months. I really need to get back on it.

Do I feel a WW thread coming on the 2012 boards soon???

If you REALLY like pasta and can't stand whole wheat, I would suggest Smart Taste pasta made by Ronzoni. Has extra fiber to fill you up and make it a little healthier, and is also enriched with calcium and vitamin D. It tastes EXACTLY like white pasta to by FH and I.
