NWR: Turkey Chef Extraordinaires!

Three questions:

1) Is it too late to buy a turkey?

2) Am I insane for attempting to make on on Thursday, for my first time?

3) Anyone have any fool proof recipe/method to cooking a turkey??

TIA!!!

1 - no its not too late to buy a turkey if u buy it tomorrow
2- u would need to buy is asap and prepare it as soon as possible. Get a small turkey and start to prep it tomorrow. Make sure to clean it out, use ur season etc and let it marinate overnight
3- I don't have a fool proof way of cooking a turkey. I have helped my mom cook that dang bird for 26 years and as soon as I moved out I was like 'there is no way I will ever make that damn bird on my own'

Thanks lady - I just read that I have to season it the night before and also rub it with oil/butter...And then tomorrow start the very slow cooking process. Ugh I feel bad for the guests LOL

Best way to cook a turkey is to season it the night before...I use season salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, thyme and parsley...coat it really well. It will need to cook for 20 minutes per pound!!! So a 20 pound turkey = 400 minute/60 = about 7 hrs. I cook mine at 350 degrees. If you put stuffing inside add an hour to the cook time, also the turkey should rest for a half hour or so before you cut it, just take it out of the oven but leave the foil on cut right before serving. I also put sliced onions and carrots in the pan around the bird and a 1/4 cup of water to get the juice for the gravy started. Baste at least every 1/2 hr after the first three hours has gone by!! Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!
