Is it really bad to use their attorney as your attorney as well? What can really go wrong? Heard about having someone to represent your best interests is better, but what exactly will go wrong if I dont have an independent att? Cant seem to get a definitive answer... Please help... Trying to make the decision today asap!

Re: NWR: Using Bank's Attorney
I have always been advised by professors in law school to use your own attorney. I think its always helpful to have someone you can 100% trust is advising you of the right thing without someone else's interests at heart.

As an atty myself, I would highly suggest using your own. Yes many times it will go smoothly and using the bank atty could cause no issues but there can be issues and you want someone who is completely in your corner.
I am not even doing my own closing because I want to keep my emotions out of it all.

Re: NWR: Using Bank's Attorney
As a former closing paralegal I can say this is done ALOT. I have never came across a problem with any clients. The banks attorney is almost NEVER an attorney but a closer anyway. I won't tell you what to choose cause I like ya and would never want it to come back and bite me in the a$$. If you need any help let me know. I know alot of Real estate attorneys and mortgage people.

Use your own attorney. Most of the time it would be ok to use the bank's attorney, but what if you're in the 1 person in 100 where there's a problem. You need to have your own advocate. I know several good RE attorneys if you need a referral.
