NWR: What do YOU do for a living? A little help (ideas) please!
I teach dance but unfortunately dance schools have a busy season which means I only work from September - June. Sounds good but that also means I am unemployed during the summer months, aside for the 2 dance classes I teach (down from 25 during the busy season). I don't think I can deal with a 9-5 office job which I've done in the past but as I'm getting older I think I'm developing major ADD and just can't do the office thing. I'm trying to think of different jobs that I could possibly take on but my mind is coming up blank
So what's your job(s)?

what are some of your interests? there are other jobs where you dont sit behind a desk all day and do the same thing day in and day out.

Well I work in an office and hate it. I m going back to school for teaching. I cant wait to have the summers off. DO u need to work during those months? If you do, what about camps, or how about waitressing a few nights a week. HTH

hmmm, maybe working at a beach club? This way it would only be for the summer months and you wouldn't have to worry about quitting when the summer is over. There are so many things you can do there, camp counselor, waitress, reception, activities planner....

Maybe you could do Ballroom dance lessons for adults? We are going for lessons now, for our August wedding. With so many weddings in the summer I am sure you would be busy!

the only thing i can think of is get medicated for ADD so you can do an office job
Im joking i dont have any suggestions, i think the hours of 9-5 are ideal, in an office u get to sit all day as opposed to a retail job where you stand. If you get a job where you have use your car, the driving and gas would succk big time. and its so hot out you would be dying in your car.

Anything where I can tap into my creativity...of any of the jobs I've ever had I was hired for one thing then ended up finding some way to do something creative within that job. But of course I still had to do my everyday boring work which is why I'm no longer with any of them.

What about working somewhere where you get paid off the books like a hair salon? You make great money as an assistant..or you could go to school for 6 months and become a hair dresser...great money

I am currently an insurance broker, but going back to school to become the teacher I always wanted to be. How about teaching other classes like aerobics at a health club or other classes.

My sister is like that..although shes' only 19..so last summer and this summer she's working at a camp. She makes enough money in salary and tips to last her the whole year. She loves kids and started dance & soccer programs at the camp. She got to be outside, play games and go to the beach, water parks, different trips...
might be something to look into.

maybe finding other studios to teach dance, maybe the ones in the city are still pretty busy in the summer. Since you like performing, maybe looking for a job on broadway, theres alot of people who help put the show on, i dont know specifics sorry but first thing that popped into my head.
Other jobs you dont just sit down doing the same old thing is product development, i did an internship at a product development company and its very different and fun.
Maybe a non-profit organization, you also get made more money and get alot more vacation time, i think your first year there you get 4 weeks. SInce non-profit organizations dont care to make a profit at the end of the year, all the money they make they put back into the company which includes paying employees more money, so for many of them the pay is good.
Public relations can be real fun and you definitely dont just sit around, can be hard though bc you would have to attend many events at night and it could be a couple times a week sometimes
summer camp is good too-i know you work with kids at your dance classes so might be a good choice
