NWR: What is an acceptable amount to give?

Tomorrow is my best friend's niece's Christening. I was just invited yesterday which is a long story but anyway, what is an appropriate amount to give? It's at Giorgio's by the way..so now I'm freaking out that I have to give more? TIA! Just wanted to get different opinions. ( I'm going alone FH is working)

are you close with them? 100 seems like alot to me...I mean I didnt get that for my kids Christenings unless it were ppl who I was close with.
I got savings bonds or cash....1 person avg gift was 50-60

I would say $50, $75 at most since you're going by yourself and were only invited yesterday.

See I'm really confused..lol I was going to give 50. But now I'm like are they going to expect 100? I would say I am close with them. I'm inviting them to the wedding.

So then maybe go in the middle and give $75. I always find it hard to decide how much to give. I feel like if they are coming to your wedding and you are close with them, then $100 would be appropriate. If you're not that close with them, then $50 would be fine.

I think 75 would be ok.

Majority of the people didn't get anything for my daughter's christening but I really appreciated their presence. The few that did gave $50.

I would give $50. You are going alone and you were invited last minute.

I fret about this stuff all the time:) $100 is very generous. I've been told $50 is more common. You're fine anywhere in there. I'd do $75 and it's still generous.

give what you can afford!

my first thought was $50, you're going alone and you were invited last minute. I think 50 is very generous but if you're nervous then give $75

i'm sure they will appreciate whatever you decide to give!

I would say get a $100 savings bond, this way you only have to spend 50! :)

I always give savings bonds at christenings and communions. I started it because I went to friend's kid's party and the parents were opening the envelopes to pay for the party and I felt the money was for the kid. And now I do it for another reason, I just cashed in my bonds from my christening and communion and its paying for a big part of my honeymoon!

I give either a 50 dollar or 100 dollar savings bond depends on the kid

ITA. Bonds will help the kid later when they actually need money. I still have most of mine and the ones I did cash I made a good amount of money on, unfortunately bonds today are not as good but still double in value in 20 years. I usually do a 50-75-100 bond depending who the person is or how I'm doing financially and if I am going alone or with my FH andwhat I also throw in with it. Usually a christening statue or picture frame or something a lil more personal from a hallmark type store. Kohl's also has a good selection of Baptism frames.
