NWR: Where do you spend the holidays?

NWR: Where do you spend the holidays?

The only holidays that I insist on spending with Fh are Christmas, New Years, and 4th of July. Christmas and Christmas Eve are spent running around to see everybody. For holidays like Thanksgiving and Easter, we go our seperate ways and spend with our own sides of the family. I don't really care about this as I would rather be with my side of the family than to his side where I don't always feel comfortable. I was just wondering what everybody else does. I made a poll but please elaborate!

I am very much like you! so far for 7 years we pretty much have been doing holidays seprately since his family is here and mine is in PA. We get easter together since he is greek orthodox and their easter is differently. This past year he came to my house for christmas which i was very happy about. That's one thing i won't budge on. I want to be with my family on christmas. Next year/this year...my family said they would do Thanksgiving on Friday so we could do thursday here and then go to PA for the weekend. I th]ink it's a good compromise. Then Christmas will be in PA.....As for the others i guess we just stay on LI the 4th is huge on FH's side so we go there.....we are trying to work things out..lol

before we got engaged, we did holidays separate but fh would always come over at the end of the night on christmas eve or day. he's not big into easter, so he would spend that with me.

now, we are trying to do both families since his mom and my parents are only 10 minutes apart. I spent thanksgiving dinner at his house and was totally depressed (first thanksgiving away from home) but we went to my sister's afterwards so it was okay. puerto ricans and italians have very different ideas when it comes to thanksgiving dinner, though neither one is very american

we dont celebrate the same holidays
so we are always together,

Only exception is thanksgiving, and we usually go to 2 dinners since my family eats early and his late.

Last year on thanksgiving i just stayed at his parents house, i didnt feel like traveling.

Well FH hates the beach and my parents have a summer house on the shore that I spent my summer's in as a kid. So every Memorial weekend, fourth of July and Labor Day weekend I am there with or without FH. Easter we've been switching on and off for a few years. New Year's eve is with his family (my family doesn't do anything). Christmas eve is my family with his family. Christmas day we separated. Thanksgiving I have to have at home, but this past year was with his family. I cannot wait to have the holidays in our house!

Re: NWR: Where do you spend the holidays?

fh and i celebrate it together and we always come up with our own system of splitting the holidays

For example christmas we do x-mas eve with his family by going to church then out to dinner and after back to his house to open gifts. Christmas day we spend with my family

easter is the easiest bc he is catholic and i am christian orthodox so easter is the only holiday that we dont have at the same time.

Thanksgiving we have spent with my parents but thats bc his family goes upstate and i work the next day so its hard.

4th of july weve done with his family

We do Christmas eve with my family, Christmas day with his family. Thanksgiving, New Years, July 4th, Labor Day and Memorial Day his and my family combined but in LI not Queens. For Easter, it will probably be with my family.

Did I miss holidays?

Thankfully my parnts and his family all get along well...my brother is a bit stand-offish so he rarely goes but that's just how my brother is.

I'm surprised by how many girls spend holidays without their FH. I was expecting everyone to say they did all holidays together.

That makes me feel better. I think once we have kids I will feel it's more important to spend everything together.

We basically do every holiday together...

We go to my side and his side on every holiday...Easter is the only holiday that we spend at his house all day..We usually do easter whenever my brother gets a chance to come home so its never on easter day.

Re: NWR: Where do you spend the holidays?

We have been doing holidays together for a long time now, trying to see both sides each time and trying to be as fair as possible. I have a huge family... we do holidays with cousins, aunts and uncles, not just immediate fam.. so they would shoot us if we didn't see them.

Easter is usually easy since I'm Catholic and he's Greek Orthodox (falls on different days). Christmas Eve is with my family since it's big for us. Christmas Day dinner is with his family and then we stop by my family for dessert. Thanksgiving varies depending on who is doing it (if my mom or his mom are doing it, or if it's an aunt or someone else).

We've had this system for a while now and so far it's been good! And luckily almost everyone is in Queens, so the traveling around isn't too bad!

seriously i dont mind bc i prefer not having to drive anywhere and doing it at my own place. My mom always had things at our place so it was so easy with everybody coming over and never having to deal with crazy holiday traffic. Ill do them all too hahahaha

FH's family isn't too into the holidays, wheres in my family EVERYTHING is a holiday! So, we pretty much did Thanksgiving & Christmas Eve & Christmas day with my family. But went to his house the day after thanksgiving and the weekend before christmas to celebrate with them. Easter will be at my house, his parents aren't even going to be home.

Once we get married, I'll probably take over Thanksgiving from my mom and hopefully his parents will come too, but I doubt it. His stepmom is weird like that.

very true. my sister started having NY eve and easter and i KNOW it's because they don't want to drive. esp once you'll have kids, you'll love being home so it's good you are starting the tradition now. If I had a house [ or even easy parking] I would try to have a holiday but it won't happen for a while.

i have never really traveled for the holidays, so if i had to do it id probably hate it. I did it once YEARS ago for an ex and i never did again after that and only stayed with my family. When we spend x-mas eve with fh's family, i go after work straight to church so not a big deal. And that same night we drive to my house late at night so we wake up there and not deal with all that

Ive really been spoiled by this. I like waking up, lounging during the holidays lol

Re: NWR: Where do you spend the holidays?

we spend all of our holidays together. for xmas and xmas even, we'll split those up between the families, then for thanksgiving and easter, one year we'll spend w/ one family, and the next year w/ the other family. we both have small families, and when we spend it w/ my dad, it's really spending it w/ his wife's family, and they're a big drag (biggest bunch of complainers i've ever met!), so we really can't wait to have a house and start having the holidays at our place.

Exactly, it's just better that everyone comes to you as opposed to having to go here and then go there (like we have in the past). I just hope someone buys the rest of my china so I have enough plates
