NWR - WWYD? updated

NWR - WWYD? updated

We had a dinner party this weekend at a restuarant and 12 people were supposed to come. The night of the party, we had one no-show, a good friend of mine, and he never called or emailed to let me know that he couldn't come. I am annoyed because it is not like a gathering at a bar or a lounge -- this was a dinner event with a reservation for a specific number of people so if you can't come at the last minute, you should at least call me! Even more annoying -- the next morning I checked my facebook status updates and the whole night he was updating his status about this bar and that club... so he skipped a dinner party to which he RSVPed and went clubbing instead!

So I want to know -- would you mention anything to him? Should I send him an email and ask 'hey, what happened to you? ' or should I not even bother?

UPDATE - so I wrote on his facebook wall 'we missed you on saturday' and he wrote back about picking up his sister from the airport and being there until midnight -- but at midnight he updated his facebook page about drinking with friends! Does he not know I can see his updates?!?!?! Also, why couldn't he call or text once he figured out he couldn't make the dinner? And why did he RSVP yes if he knew he had to pick up his sis from the airport anyway?!?!?

I would personally want to know what happened, so I would ask him. Maybe he forgot? But that really is no excuse. We are adults, if you make a plan and RSVP to something you should show up!

I would mention it to him if he is a good friend. Did he maybe forget? Could that be possible? I would think it would be dumb of him to update his facebook so often saying that he was out when he blew you guys off intentionally, maybe he forgot?

I would call and find out

That's tough... it's not like he's really showing any remorse or shame over the fact that he skipped out. He may well have just forgotten about it. (I've done that once... I was so ashamed I sent my friend an 'I'm sorry!' card in the mail the next day and it took her 2 weeks to start calling me again... I literally was home in PJs when she called from the restaurant... I'm so embarassed still thinking about it!)

I think I'd maybe just say something like 'we missed you Saturday' or post the same on his facebook wall saying 'we missed you Saturday - want to try to reschedule since you couldn't make it or didn't end up making it?' Something like that. Not even meant to be passive aggressive or anything, just to genuinely invite him for another time.

It boils down to how good a friend you are with this guy and how much it means to you to remind him that he was missed.

Sounds like not mentioning it might not help, so you might as well.

I would call him and ask him. It's possible of course that he forgot it was this weekend, but even still, I'd like to know, and I'd definitely want to make sure that he was aware that he missed it.

i really think its a case of 'oops, i forgot!' it happens... i would just ask... and if not, then you deserve a reason and know where you stand with this person

I would def ask! It is possible he forgot! one of my GMs was driving to a confirmation when I called Sat to remind him the rehearsal started in an hour! He had completely forgot! Luckily for us he made it on time but sometimes these things just totally slip guys minds...

Hmmmm.... maybe your friend didn't want to go to the dinner party and just said yes not to hurt your feelings.
Did this friend attend your wedding? Maybe they forgot? I'm sure there is a reason but I would let it go.... its not worth getting upset over.

i would write on his facebook status something like.. sounds like fun.. we missed you last night, I gues 'so and so' club was better than dinner with us

I would let it go....did you end up having dinner and a good time anyway? If you had paid in advance- that's one thing but if it was no sweat off your back, I wouldn't be upset.

Some people just forget or would rather spend their time doing other things- he should have rsvped 'No' if that is the case but honestly, not everyone is formal these days.

I would just not include him on the invites to events which require an rsvp.

I'd call or send an email telling him you missed him Saturday night and asking what happened? He probably forgot and will apologize.

It SOUNDS like he forgot. WHY would he do updates like that.

Aren't you glad now you know where you stand with this person??? Take it as a blessing in disguise! I was giving him the benefit of the doubt too..

I wouldn't care to take it further. You saw in FB status that he was ok and just doing something else then I wouldn't question or try to catch him in a lie. It's not worth it. He should have advise you that he wasn't coming but it just goes to show what type of manners he has.
