Right now I'm in the insurance business, but I really need a change. I'm fed up and bored. I plan on going back to school, but I have no idea what to study.

What is your hobby?
I took my passion - Music - and made it my career. I work in Radio! (well, kind of. Long story, but I'm GETTING there!)
I got my BA in anthropology (ummm not really into it but it was easy) so after college I applied for a receptionist job at a stock brokerage and here I am 4 1/2 years later - a stockbroker. It is an ok job but the reason I stay is the people I work with are the best!

I love art - all types - drawing painting, sculpting - whatever it was that was artistic - i was doing it as a little kid- as i grew older my parents were all afraid that i was going to be the starving artist selling paintings on the street of new york - so i ended up going to school for graphic design...
and that is where i am now.....a graphic artist for an adevrtising agency here in melville... i get to still do all the artsy stuff and be creative - just do it on a computer now

I don’t feel I’ve chosen a career yet LOL
I got my degree in English, and so far I’ve worked in book and magazine publishing…doing a variety of jobs…nothing really related to what I studied or what I ever imagined I’d be doing…
Still trying to figure things out. I’ve always wanted to do something related to music (music journalism, or something like that.)…or something having to do with food. Hopefully I’ll sort things out eventually. In the meantime I am trying to become a teacher!

Re: NWR...How did you choose your career?
I was always a science dork... so I majored in Biochemistry. During college I was looking for an internship and one of the only ones left available was R&D for a cosmetic company. I got that internship and it was so much fun! Then I got an internship at Estee Lauder and that was awesome! So I decided to make that my career. I work at a small company where I am a formulation scientst. Very Very FUN!

I majored in English in college and i now teach 9th and 10th grade English. I always knew i wanted to teach and i combined that with my love of literature and here i am (and....on my off periods i spend my time on the boards instead of grading the mass amount of essays sitting on my desk!)

I got my degree in Communications...but after searching the field and not getting a chance to do what I truly wantd, I ended up as a College Admisions Counselor. I love it! I went back to school for my Masters in School Counseling and Development and I'm hoping to become a Career Counselor....so maybe one day I can help you girls that want to find new jobs!!!!

Re: NWR...How did you choose your career?
In college I was all set to declare my major in Political Science. Then one day I met this girl in one of my classes and we were talking about her major--Journalism and how she wanted to work for a magazine. I was like 'THAT'S IT!! That's what I want to do!' When I was talking, it just clicked. I knew right here that I wanted to work at a magazine. That afternoon I went to the Journalism dept. and declared my major. I had a BLAST! I started to get internships that were so much fun- I interned at a local newspaper and at a magazine (for the beauty editor) and I knew it was for me. Though I'm not in editorial anymore... I'm in promotions, I still LOVE every second of my job.

Re: NWR...How did you choose your career?
I was really interested in English in college and I developed an interest in writing and journalism, so that was my major. I've been working for a newspaper for over 3 years now and instead of reporting, I'm designing. It's ok, but I'm bored and the pay/hours aren't very good. I'm planning on going back to school to get my Masters to teach high school English. I'll probably try to either be the school paper advisor or teach a journalism elective course.

Re: NWR...How did you choose your career?
There's a saying in my business.. it goes SEVERAL ways but the gist is.
I did not grow up wanting to be in Insurance, it just sorta happened.
We 'fall' into it.
I have to admit. Insurance is a lot like Law. You specialize in something and frankly that specialization is USELESS in the real world, but at your job you’re invaluable. So I’m sort of stuck. You can move around within but I feel I can’t really get out. Still at least now I can go back to school. Thank god I actually like what I do for the most part. It’s a lot of details and searching. Smooth tap dance fighting and a lot of breaking set rules (I work for a broker) that insurance companies like to get away with that are outdated.

LOL I always use the personal shoppers at Bloomies for Jim's gifts. We also use them for other events. It's great!

Re: NWR...How did you choose your career?
I choose my career through what I liked to do! I enjoyed biology but I didn't want to go to med school. I also enjoy public speaking! Thus a high school biology teacher was born!
