NWR/KWR bad timing

NWR/KWR bad timing

So we just started looking for venues 2 weeks ago, will be doing our second round of visits in 2 weeks and hope to be able to pick one shortly after that. Yesterday morning we just found out that the fender bender I had (in FH's car) totaled the car. Then yesterday afternoon we found out FH's temp position will be letting him go at the end of the month and he doesn't have anything new lined up yet. Talk about BAD TIMING. We're not looking to get married about another 2 years (2016) but I feel like being suddenly thrust into this financial stress of having to find money for a new car and possibly one of us being unemployed is really making me reconsider how much money a wedding would cost and if we should even be thinking about spending money (yes yes in two years) when everything is so up in the air now. UGHH. I WISH I didn't want a big(ish) wedding... it would be SO much easier to elope! :(:(:(

I completely understand! We got engaged in December, everything was great, then just as we really started planning (and a week before our engagement party) I got laid off. Then he was told they were unsure about keeping him on the next school year as well. It was stressful, sure but we had plenty of time and neither of us was complacent. He ended up staying where he was bc he negotiated and I got a temp job at a place that turned to fulltime, better than I what I had been laid off from! It does cause you to be a little more careful about how you agree to spend your money, but because it's all so far away don't let it stress you out too much!

I remember when FH and I got engaged. We started our planning and then whammo, my father lost his job, someone who I thought was my best friend totally lost communication with me and it was just one thing after the next. We are 4 months from our big day and FH was in a car accident yesterday and we just got the car last week. Did not even have the car for a week and already an accident =/ I hear what you mean about bad timing but you never know, them letting him go from his current employment might just open a new door for a better job. Where one door closes another opens. Sometimes things just happen but in the long run it all works out. Keeps us ladies posted. Big hug! Ssqquueeezzeeee

One thing I've learned is that everything happens for a reason. I got laid off from my job last October and it turned out FH was planning to propose that weekend. I explicitly told him with tears running down my face that he could not propose to me until after I was once again gainfully employed. I ended up finding an amazing job as a nanny thats 10X better in every single way than the job I had before and it pays way better too. It all works out in the end. Don't stress over it. You have a long engagement which gives you time to figure everything out way before the wedding. Good luck!

I understand! We are 2 months out and a few weeks ago someone drove their truck over FHs car and completely totaled it. So on top of paying for the wedding, we had to purchase a car. Worst timing ever. And now we are having some other wedding expenses we didn't plan for. It's definitely stressful and timing sucks, but I'm starting to see, there's always something and timing is almost always off.

Sorry you have to go through all this during what should be an exciting time. I'm sure it will all work itself out, however you should be proud of yourself for being mature enough to think it over. It would definitely be easier and cheaper to elope, but if that's not what you want I wouldn't settle. Maybe you can compromise on your guest list/venue/vendors to try and keep costs down and then if (when) things start looking up, start budgeting more on vendors that are important to you?

That's terrible I'm sorry you have to go through this. You have plenty of time though things will start looking up you'll see.

Thank you everyone for the kind words of encouragement :) I'm sorry to hear so many others hit bad times after getting engaged/starting wedding planning. Is it a curse?! We're lucky in that my job sends me on business trips pretty much for the duration of Sept/Oct so we're not in a rush to get a car immediately and can take some time. It was just such a blow to have two major financial changes happen right as we were getting all excited about picking the most expnesive part of the wedding XD I'm sure everything will end up okay.... hopefully!!!

I completely understand. We just bought a house and it's really hard to come to terms with spending so much money on one day when it's a year's worth of mortgage payments. I've gotten a second job and FH works overtime every weekend to try and squirell away as much as we can. I am taking one day at a time and hoping that we'll have enough money by the end of next year. If not, we've agreed to take out a loan. It's crazy to some people, but it's our wedding day, and I know I'll be disappointed and will never be able to replicate it if we didn't do it the way I envision it.

We were engaged last December, moved in together in march and I was let go from my job in June, I know the feeling. It felt like everything crashed down at once. I've gotten the best support from FH and we are making it work. These times will make your relationship stronger. Stay positive!!! And if you ever need to let out a virtual scream, we are here for you.
