i'm sorry this has nothing to do with anything wedding related...but i am so upset about my cat and i don't know what to do.
last year i came home from a business trip to find my cat lying still on the floor, wailing. i took him to the emergency animal hospital, he had to stay over, he was having trouble w his urinary tract, and after that he had to stay at the regular vet for almost a week. the whole thing cost me $2,500. i didn't have the $ so i borrowed it from my dad and i only just finished paying him off.
2 months ago he was having similar problems, so we took him to the vet and it wasn't as bad so she was able to check him out, do tests and just give him medicine. $300.
today we came home from atlanta and the cat was crying. i felt his bladder and it was full. we took him to the vet and they said he's bad again and has to stay overnight. it could be another $1,000.
FH keeps telling me that we are saving for a wedding and we can't keep paying all of this money every few months if this keeps happening. he told me...that we might have to put the cat to sleep. it hurts even just typing that and makes me feel sick. i started to cry at the vet and FH yelled at me. he apologized on the way home, but he still feels that we have to put the cat to sleep if this happens again.
my cats are like my children. i told him that but he said they are just cats. but they are NOT just cats to me! i don't know what to do, i can't put the cat to sleep but i can't afford this if it happens again. we are trying to save for a wedding and if the money keeps going to the cat then we can't have a wedding. so FH told me i have to choose between the wedding and the cat.
i am so so so sad. my poor kitty. but it's causing problems between me and FH. but i CAN'T let my cat die!!! that would break my HEART!!
what would you do??

you know what? you might be right. the only reason i continue going to this vet is b/c they have all his history...but i really don't like them, one of the doctors has a really bad attitude and always seems crabby. maybe i should consider switching, and bringing him to the city if it means he would get the right treatment.
thank yoU!
Just remember, you can always have your cats records transfered. Where do you take your cat now? I can recommend an EXCELLENT vet in West Islip where they're taken such excellent care of Cooper and they they're 24hrs.
really?! are they an emergency hospital? i've never heard of a regular vet opened 24 hrs!! i take him now to a place in jericho...but i would like to switch...w islip is far, but it may be worth it...
yep, they're an emergency vet AND a regular vet... we've brought Cooper there for regular appts. and at 11pm for an emergency.
Hi - I just had to come on to tell you how sorry I am for what you and Jet are going through! My 2 kitties are my children so I know how you feel.
My mom's cat Oreo had the same problem for awhile - it was crystals. Our vet took him off dry food completely. He's been eating Friskies cans for years and hasn't had another episode.
I have to tell you we love our vet - her name is Dr. Dring and she owns Just Cats Health Care in S. Setauket - they are great there! Let me know if you need her phone number.

I'm so sorry to hear about that...one of my cats had the same problem and he ended up dying because we caught it too late...he was blocked up....it turns out, dry cat food can make your caught more likely to have problems with his urinary tract...also, give your cat lots of water and try using only wet food...make sure the litter is clean at all times...and with the water, make sure you wash the bowl daily...if it smells a little sour (which cats are more sensitive too, humans might not even smell it but cats will) cats won't drink....we started making changes immediately, and my other cat hasn't had a problem...I hope this helps..

You kitty is sooooo cute. I am sooooo sorry you are going through this. I know its hard for you to go through this. Just remember you have us and don't ever think you are bothering us with this. You can go on as much as you want about this. This is a very hard time for you. As long as the vet doctor gives you hope I would stay positive.

Re: NWR...sick kitty problems
maybe seek the advice of another vet. It seems like he may be treating the acute problem, and not fully addressing the cause. Also try contacting a shelter and asking for low cost clinics you can take him to....
Also change the food to one for urinary health... it may not do too much, but at least it can't hurt...
hope this helps

Re: NWR...sick kitty problems
My kitty gets those crystals also. We have been able to manage it with his food. He loves to eat that crap like Fancy Feast but I find just a little backs him up a lot. I thinking getting a way to close the door and keep it closed will help. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your kitty family.........
