Re: NWR..Student loans
I consolidated my federal with Sallie Mae. Private loan consolidations result in a higher interest rate so be careful with those. I am paying off my highest rated one and have the others in deferment. You can always no fault defer due to economic hardship, etc. w/o penalty. FM me if you need help. I have 6 figures worth of loans!!

Well, i just got a job( ) so luckily i am in a situation where i can start to pay them off now, but i want to lower my interest as much as possible(like everyone else, lol) but i dont know where to turn. i need an unbiased student loan advisor, lol.

Re: NWR..Student loans
your better off consolidating with the bank you borrowed the money from... i borrowed from citibank - they are AMAZING!! depending on how much you owe, their payback rates are realllly reasonable! i'm paying back $211 each month for 10 years

Nelnet is amazing. i think my rate is 3.5% and it will go down 1% after 1 yr of on time payments. I refused to consolidate with sallie mae. They are sneaky and will sell your loan to someone else if they want. Nelnet wont. I found nelnet through teachers credit union

Re: NWR..Student loans
we used sallie mae too. You can request a deferment if you absolutely cannot may, but I personally struggle from month to month so I don't have to do that

mine is with great lakes
if youre not ready to start paying it back yet, you can ask for a deferrment due to financial hardship or some other reasons

Re: NWR..Student loans
call graduate leverage - they are fairly unbiased....and they will hook you up with a lender that won't sell your loans to other lenders who can change the terms of your agreement.....i also heard nellnet was good.....you can also try to get your loans into forebearance for a little....

Re: NWR..Student loans
i think i will start by calling nelnet to see how they operate. my loans were originally through HSBC who sold them to nelnet so i dont know what thats all about. as of right now my interest rate is 7.25% which sounds a little high to me.

Re: NWR..Student loans
I dont know if this is applicable to you, but you can only consolidate if they are federal loans (not private). I consolidated my federal loans with Access Group since I had my private loans with them, it just makes it easier.
