NY Weddings

Original post by ItalianBride428

I was sitting here watching platinum weddings and thought....

I bet a 'typical' NY wedding might be considered platinum to many people around the country.

It is amazing how much different NY is from other states.

I heart NY!

I know...apparently its common...I think as NYers we tend to do way more than the average...it's fun though

I have been to many out of state weddings and one upstate ny which should have been out of state the way it was, lol. The cocktail hours generally are crackers and cheeses, that's it. The dinner hours are more like our cocktail hours here. The bars generally are cash which I know my friends and family would riot if I did that here, lmao!

I’m sooo excited to see how FH’s family enjoys the wedding… the only experiences they’ve had with American weddings so far has been seeing them in movies!

that is so true! I was thinking the exact same thing when I was watching the one with the bride having hers in NJ. She really was not doing anything more over the top than what most of our halls offer.

Alot of my OOT are from the Caribbean and the south so I know i'm going to get alot of 'how much did they spend' whispers. I've went to weddings in both areas and they were pretty basic (except for my uncle, who's wife is used to NY weddings) But like everyone said previously, the NY side of the family will think i'm scrimping if they don't have this 'type' of wedding that they are used to

mmm , ive been to alot of weddings and never was one a cash bar or a fire hall, i think its what you want to spend in pa. and how classy the persons are. and my mom would faint if i served cheese and crackers for cocktail hour. but i do admit i hear wonderful things about li weddings.

I've never been to a wedding outside of NY, but my parents have and they said it was so different - no one throws a wedding like NY!

i dont think how classy a person is really affects that much in wedding talk.

I'm not a classy broad, i'll be the first to admit it, but my wedding will be a Long Island Gold Coast affair.

My friend who lives out of state, is as classy as it gets, and as stuck up to be honest, but her wedding was in a church hall and had a cash bar because that's just how it's done by her.

I know! There are states that look at 20 grand for a wedding the way we look at one that is for 100 grand....it's nuts!
