I was sitting here watching platinum weddings and thought....
I bet a 'typical' NY wedding might be considered platinum to many people around the country.
It is amazing how much different NY is from other states.
I heart NY!

Re: NY Weddings
They definately are... FH and his family are from Pittsburgh, PA and they are just amazed with everything we are planning. They are used to going to weddings in places like fire halls. I'm so glad I live in NY!

Weddings are so different here than many places in the US. Some places don't do open bar, which to I think is standard here.

I know, I dont think planning is as intense....perhaps in major cities...but in general they prolly think we are crazy for spending so much money!

I was just going to the same thing. A friend of mine who is from RI said they typically do not do open bar at weddings. We cannot even imagine this in NY...

My FH's cousins are from MD, and they were married in a high school gym and allegedly that was normal!

People here would highly insulted if there wasnt an open bar...at least, the majority are used to that.

Re: NY Weddings
I went to a wedding upstate and it was open bar for like an hour and then it was a cash bar. I was shocked but my upstate friends said this was fairly normal.
They also said it was normal to give a present not cash.

I know! NY weddings... in particular LI weddings... are like no other! I can't wait to see what our OOT guests will say about our wedding... I am willing to bet they'll think our cocktail hour is the entire dinner!!!!!

Re: NY Weddings
that's so true! I have friends from out of state who don't even know what a cocktail hour is! I mean, they know, but only from tv or whatever or from me talking about. Most of my friends have gotten married in fire halls or church basements with no open bar or they had bottled beer that they bought themselves and wine they got at a discount liquor store. Can I tell you.... I'm honestly jealous of all those girls. The stress level for them was basically nonexistant because it was just like throwing a big party or BBQ and everyone had a BLAST. I feel like there is so much pressure because people here expect so much more than that.
It's crazy....
