I really like Carmine's, Portofino, Trattoria del Arte (sp?), and Il Molino - but the last two are pretty pricey.

Carmine's or Tony DiNapoli's - both are fantastic, reasonable priced, festive, and family style.

By far the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to was Bellavite. It is located downtown on manetto road (I think?). It is like being in Italy ... they're food is absolutely amazing. They serve it family style but with smaller portions instead of the large dishes. This way you taste a whole bunch of things. We had the waiter help us, the menu is kinda confusing! You pick a bunch of different choices for appetizer, pastas, meat and a whole lot of stuff I'm forgetting! I am definitely going back for our anniversary or any other special event I can drag him in for!!! Which shouldn't be hard - he hasn't shut up about it and how good it was! They are a bit expensive so if you're looking for a cheaper place with great food there's also la standza verde and da rosina on restaurant row... they're more reasonable ... bout 20 bucks for the pre fix meal. ooooo ... now I'm hungry

Il Cortile-Little Italy-highly recommended. You can eat til you splode!

There's also a midtown eatery called Osteria Stella. 50th and 7th-a little more upscale.

i really like buona notte in little italy
also like il gattopardo... somewhere in the 50s b/w 6th and 7th.

for my friends bachelorette party we went to this italian restaurant on 9th ave and 53rd street, i cannot remember the name. But the waiters sing and dance and everyone gets up on the chairs to dance... it was cute.
