I find Asia de Cuba extremely relaxing and fun.. i always feel like i'm on vacation in Miami when i'm there.
STK for steak and good looking people.
BuddaKhan fabulous atmosphere.. small food portions.
Son Cubano.. fun cuban food and later there is dancing and music.
buddakan is actually family style, not the same way as italians do family style but compared to other asian fusion places the portions are bigger. Asian fusion just does small portions unfortunately.
Buddha bar on the other hand has extremely small portions, and the food isn't even good lol

I agree - Gradisca is the best. I used to live around the corner from there and ate there all the time. Blue Hill is also fantastic. Capitale Grille for steak.

Blue Hill is a really nice choice for new american. Five points as well. Telepan has good reviews for that as well, but I have not been there. Grammercy tavern is super yummy for that as well. Perilla's reviews have improved, it is run by one of the top chef winners. I had lunch at Cafe Bolud years ago the food was amazing. If you like fusion, Vong is great. Oh one of my favorite Minnesota restaurant, the New French Cafe, has somehow re-opened in NYC, so I am giving them a shout out, though I have not been yet.

I would suggest Smith & Wollensky (best steak & wine) for steak, Park restaurant (great interior design of an indoor enchanted garden & delicious food) on west 18-19 st btwn 8 & 9th Ave for Italian/fusion, and Pranna (elegant & chic atmosphere and great service) for Thai/Asian Fusion on Madison Ave btwn east 32-33rd st. Those are my favorite places! For our anniversary, I'm thinking of trying River Cafe in Dumbo, bklyn. There's something about the view right over the bridge & water as well as the great reviews & rave about the restaurant.

n my opinion, the single greatest restaurant of all time is Il Mulino. If you like Italian, I just can't imagine getting anything better. And if the size of my *** is any indication, I'm an expert. This is not just a dinner. It is an experience. Very expensive, hard to get a reservation. WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Also, more casual, is Les Halles, Anthony Bourdain's french. Relaxed, but awesome. Get the scallops. TRUST.
Also, if you like tapas and sangria, Flor de Sol. Also a bit more casual, but incredible.

I second Il Mulino. I have never eaten the way I ate at that place. FH and I are admitted food snobs, the food there is out of control!! If you go have the truffle ravioli!!!

1. Top of the Tower at the Beekman Hotel (Intimate & great views)
Asia de Cuba is one of my favorite restaurants. Like some of the other girls said, Dylan Prime and Tao are also great. I also like the atmophere at Spice Market.
If you like Mexican...Dos Caminos is great.
Sushi Samba and Koi are also really good

FH and I love to try new fare and a few years ago we went to an Egyptian restaurant (basically Mediterranean) called Casa La Femme on 1st Avenue. We sat on cushions on the floor in private tents. The food and service was great. Sooo romantic. It was a bit pricey, but we did get two bottles of wine. A couple of hundred dollars but well worth it.
With regards to Tavern on the Green, I'd have to say that it's pretty but as a big restaurant goer, I wouldn't go back. Nothing there that tickled my fancy, except that we got engaged on a carriage ride right after JMO though. I'm a tough critic.

Carmines has good food, but it is family style so and everything ordered a la carte so you and you FH will have to decide on the same diner, or bring home a lot of food!!

DelFriscos-Steak is great but they have the best crabcakes in the city!
BLT Steak-Steak is good but they have this amazing tuna tar tar and these yummy popovers
Mama Mexico-yummy and across the streak from Smith and Wollensky's
TAO-really cool atmosphere and the food is a great mix of Asian-Fusion
There are a million places on the lower east side that are all so cute and intimate. If you go on a nice night and just walk around you will stumble upon something.

FH and I LOVE Gyu-Kaku. We went there the night we got engaged and are going back in 2 weeks for my sister's birthday. It's Japanese BBQ where you cook the food yourself on the grill that's at your table. The food is absolutely amazing. We didn't have 1think that we didn't like. There are 2 locations, one in the village and one in the 50's somewhere but the one in the village is actually cheaper and the atmosphere is a lot better and less touristy.
