I just went to this great italian restaurant in the theatre district that was amazing! It's called Becco and it's on 46th between 8th & 9th. It's owned by Lidia Bastianich who has a cooking show on PBS. The food was fantastic, not badly priced, and very close to all the theatres. You definitely need a reservation though. The phone # is 212-397-7597. Enjoy!!

What type of food and what type of restaurant are you looking for (laid back, a place you have to get dressed up, something with music)?

I can think of about 20 or so that I have been to that are really good. A lot are steak places since my husband likes that.

Def the View Restaurant in Marriott Marquis. It is on the top of the hotel, a revolving restaraunt. The food is delish!

Wolfgang's (33rd & Park Ave) is wonderful. A little pricier than some of the places in the theater district, but perfect for a special occasion.

I love Otto Enoteca Pizzeria, it's a Mario Batali place on 5th Ave at 1st street I think.

I also love Craft, that's on 18th street on the West side.

You can look them up at www.nymetro.com for reviews.

For my FH's 30th I tried to get a reservation at Gramery Tavern but I couldn't so I got one at Union Square Cafe. FH absolutely loved it.

Both are american food. Gramercy is more of steakhouse type of place.

Both are really nice, a bit pricey, but great food and great service. A nice treat for a big birthday.

Let us know what you decide!

I took FI to Ono in the meatpacking district for his bday this year and he loved it. It's quite expensive with ecclectic choices. If ur FI is adventerous and really likes a good meal I would def check it out. It's part of the China Grill group. Oh yea, China Grill is amazing too!

If you want something closer to the shows, I like Hell's Kitchen (Mexican/Latin food) and Maria Pia (Italian).

I just went there for the first time last week. I thought it was fantastic and a great deal. We both had the pasta special and were amazed at the amount of food.

For steak, wolfgang's is great as is the palm, but the palm may be too far away from the theatre district.

I have to throw in another vote for Becco. We live in the neighborhood, and it's our favorite restaurant. The pasta pre-fix (unlimited servings of the three pastas of the day plus salad or antipasto) is not to be beat.

Have fun!

I have been hearing good things about Beccos-this may be a good choice. nothings better than good food at a great price.
