Re: NYC teachers have you experienced this?(LONG)
Can you call your principal tomorrow? Sometimes they can pull some strings. I would also call someone at UFT headquarters. Here is a link to some numbers at the UFT: UFT
Unfortunately there are some people who work for the Department of Ed. in the city who feels it is their job to make peoples' lives miserable. During my student teaching semester and my first year, I left the Board of Ed. in tears every time I went because the people I dealt with tried to give me such a difficult time. I would call the UFT and your principal and tell them you are caught between a rock and a hard place and you are getting no help whatsoever. Please keep us informed because I know personally how diffucult the Dept of Ed can be and your situation makes me very angry!

First off, I am not a teacher , but Fh is in NYC and I have to say the only way you can make heads or tails out of things with them is by going down there. We have gone down there a few times over the summer, and got more progress by going down in person. They are not the nicest there. I had my dealings with them also, dealing with my Dad's pension, ( he was a NYC retired teacher) which I am still trying to straighten out, and going on FH health insurance. they are not the nicest people in the world. I have already gone down there and gotten my head bitten off by them... not literally , but you know what I mean after you get yelled at once by them .Good luck to you, and I hope it all works out.

Oh, I have to agree with Princess99. Whenever I had to deal with the Dept. of Ed, I always went in person. I don't even know how to get in contact with them through the phone. All the veteran teachers I met in my career highly recommended that you go to the Dept. of Ed. in person. See if you can get info from the UFT before you go to the Dept. of Ed, if you go, so at least you are armed with some information. You cannot be denied a job because one person is on vacation and therefore cannot input your information into the computer.
