*~*~Official '08 Wedding Day Prep Page~*~* (starts long!)

Original post by 040508Bride

So I've read a lot about what girls plan to do to prep for the big day, so I figured i'd share some of the things i've learned along the way and plan on doing, and maybe you can all share yours??? You never know what you'll learn!!!! **Beauty/Hair related**

Tanning.....
Not sure if i'm going to delve into this for the big day. I managed 4 tanning salons on LI so it gave me enough experience to know that I will look like a tangerine.....However.....I am a HUGE fan of Brazil Bronze in Great Neck. **If** I do this, I plan on doing it 2 days before the wedding so that it has time to fade to a more normal looking tone.
Be aware that spray tans CAN fade if you sweat, which is why i'm not even sure if i'll be doing this. I plan on dancing a lot so idk if I really want the rims of my gown turning orange.

Skin....

I got the Bare Minerals night powder. Not 100% sure of the name, but it was about $60 and I love it. I put this on every night before bed and it works on acne and skin tone (color blotches, etc).

I go for a pedicure every 2 weeks and switch it up every other time with a Spa Pedicure. To keep my skin soft inbetween, i mix lotion with a drop of massage oil, rub it in before putting my socks on. It works great but you can't use too much oil. Just a drop works great.
I also apply the lotion and oil to my elbows and knees...anywhere you get really dry skin is a good idea.

I am also a HUGE FAN of B&BW exfoliating scrub (the one that is never on sale until this week!! woo hoo!!) I use that every single day on my arms and legs especially in the winter.

When I went for my hair trial, I spoke to my Hair Colorist (Erica from Lumara who I love!!) and she suggested a L'Oreal Deep Conditioning Mask. I only got it this week but after the first use my hair was pretty silky. I have very damaged hair from a recent bad idea of perming my hair (don't ask) so we'll see how this works. So far, so good!
She also suggested not washing hair everyday. She said every other is the best bet.

The best tip of all.....water. water water water!! It helps everything!!! :)

Tips....

To remove stains from dyed shoes (good for Bridesmaids to know if they are getting dyed shoes)....I heard nail polish remover works, or scrubbing with baking soda and peroxide. I have never tried this but I heard it works.

Anyone else doing something a little different for the next few months in preperation?? Hope this helps someone!

just dont do it way before the wedding. I have the white strips, the professional ones. FH's brother got it from the dentist but he never used it. I did it and it was really hurting my teeth and my gums became so sensitive. I plan on doing it but i am gonna wait until closer to the wedding. I couldn't deal with it for a very long time

Great Thread! My prep list is the same as many of yours:
* Started facials & glycolic peel at Mario Badescu in Dec & using some new products.
* Continue with WW & lose the last bit of weight
* Up workouts to extra firm up arms/back/abs the most
* Hair conditioning treatments & 2 more colorings before wedding
* Keep up with all vitamins & biotin (I take like 11 diff. pills- multi, oils, Folic Acid & more)
* Crest Whitening
* Tanning before wedding for 'glow' (although I may be going to Florida 2 weeks before wedding with MOH)
* And the regular stuff- waxing, nails, etc...

OH- and I had lasik last April... that was the start of my prep!!! LOL

Yes with the vitamins! I've started my regiment again so I have healthy looking skin, hair and nails!

nice. I hate facials....sooo painful sometimes!!! haha I was going to start going maybe next month, but I have to find a place in Jersey

What tanning bed do you use?? You never looked orange to me in pics, maybe you're on to something i don't know about?? It could just be my complexion though...I have light olive skin (italian) and even when i tan in the sun I brown quickly.

I'm not sure what color i'm going with for my hair either. Right now I have a dark chocolate brown base with bright bright red low lights and blonde high lights. Thats def. too much for wedding day. I'm not sure if I want to go with a brownish red (auburn?) or Blonde highlights with no red....decisions decisions...

oh god it can be so painful, at one point i was like OMG i cant take it anymore hahaha.

no big secret or anything but i do the diamond bed at beach bum and use either denim and diamonds lotion or iced cream...you get tangerine after just one tan?

i know its hard, i like the red but in pics its a bit too much and not really the wedding look and wonder how ill feel about it like 20 years from now haha

As NICE as the red is, if you ask me or any of us to vote (which we are all so used to doing for each other lol) I'd say go blonde for your wedding. You were blonde for a lot longer and you had your trial with the blonde and KNOW it looks like you. I don't know, I hear ya on the, 'Wonder how I'll feel about it in 20 years'.....it's a hard choice!

well now i did a different red, not as bright as before hahahaha more of a natural looking color, like a cooperish brown...I thought i'd definitely do blonde for the wedding, had no intentions at all to do red but with FH keep telling me how much he wants me to keep the red it confuses me haha

i'm gonna give you my opinion bc i know you care so much lol....i love the blonde on you, it's so pretty!! I love red too and it looks great on you but i think for your wedding you should go back to blonde. i'm searching for a pic now with my current color....

yeah don't worry i can take honesty. Thats what i say, for a bridal look i always pictured blonde, i mean its important for me to like the look i have but i keep thinking that i want FH to be like WOW and i know he feels WOW about me with red hair, even blonde obviously hahaha but ah he'll just have to get over that. My big thing is how my red hair comes out in pics, its too in your face you know. I am most likely going to blonde, its how i always pictured myself, he just has to make it difficult for me . But thank you for being honest, i prefer when people are

Denise.. you are beautiful.. the red hair definitely looks great on you and you know your FH and everyone else would be floored even if you came out with a Britney shaved head hahaha.. but I definitely vote for the blonde.. it's just less dramatic.. and doesn't compete with your dress and the flowers and stuff as much as the red would

awww thank you so much, so sweet ...hahaha nobody wants to see me with a shaved head, i have a weird shaped head lol. Very good point, its funny bc i wrote in another thread how i was talking about my shower invites and me thinking they were going out soon and i overheard my mom say that theyre going out this week lol...then just before she asked me if i am going to be blonde or red for the wedding, its like she knows what im talking about lol. She also wants me to be blonde and she also made such a great point. With red its so hard to dye and get the color to stay, and she asked people at the salon and they said its too difficult of a color and can cause problems, and the toner you use can also turn it orange-ish after you wash it. PLUS i am using extensions and 2 weeks before need to go to her to match the color exactly, well within 2 weeks my hair will fade ALOT by then so my extensions wont even match...ok seems like i just made the decision. Your point about the hair standing out too much helped too, i dont want my hair color to be the focus

I didn't even think about the extensions.. it's true with the fading it would be difficult to match! That's so cute how your mom knows what you've been thinking about! Moms really are the best sometimes!

yeah i didnt really think about the extensions either...It would be extremely hard to match the extensions to what the color would be like on my wedding day, infact with red i wont even know for sure what color it would be, each wash it looks different lol. Its just weird coincidences, but she is freaky like that

facials every 5-6 weeks
using the white strips june, july, and aug.

i already drink sooo much water.
i will tan maybe 3 times a week for 10 minutes or so a few weeks before the wedding to get rid of any uneven lines...
i get my hair colored and cut every 6 weeks but will do the cut/color one week before my wedding.

Denise, I have an idea!

What if you went back to blonde for the wedding, so that you could find extensions easier and have pictures of you with a non-wild look....THEN, do your NW chop and dye it red for the HM!!! You'll have fun doing that, FH will LOVE that and you'll always remember that you went to the salon after your wedding to get a fun 'do for your newly married life!!! Aww, I think that's a cute idea!

well i had real red hair when i first dyed it, now its a bit different, but before i dyed it just now it lightened up ALOT and was more auburn

first is the 1st time i dyed it red

middle 2 pics are of it when it faded and actually the day before i dyed it again

last pic is when i last dyed it this past weekend

Denise, I love the red, but I think blonde for the wedding... Why not do boudiour pics with the red and then go blonde for the wedding? the red is very 'naughty' and the blonde will be more timeless for the wedding... then Joe gets great pics of you with BOTH colors!

Re: *~*~Official '08 Wedding Day Prep Page~*~* (starts long!)

Great thread!

I started facials in December and will go every 4-6 weeks. I have really red blotchy cheeks and the products she gave me to use are working really well!!!

I just got back to jazzercise and come hell or high water, I will do my best to be there 4-5 times a week. I want to tone my arms and lose about 10 pounds.

I gave up soda about 4 months ago and try to drink ONLY water. If I want something sweet, I add crystal light.

I'm growing my hair out, so I'll keep getting trims every 4-6 weeks until the wedding. As for the color, right now I'm a pretty dark brown. I'd like to have it a little lighter with very few highlights in it for contrast, however, they won't match the extensions I have, so I have some thinking to do.

I'm usually a beach bum and I'm at the beach all weekend long over the summer, but this summer I'll be working 7 days, so I'll either need to tan or spray tan. I'm thinking once or twice a week beginning July so that it will be a natural looking tan and not just done in two weeks.

i think that is it. again, this is a great thread

lol yeah fh said 'ok do blonde but promise you'll go back to red after' hahaha. I dont know if i want to cut my hair only because for like 3 or 4 years i had short red hair, or even when i dyed it red like 3 years ago i also cut it short, its like for some reason when i had red it was always short so now is the first time its not. But i'll definitely go back to red after. And yeah for the extensions i have to go to claudia pedala about 2 weeks before and she takes a sample of my hair and matches extensions exactly to mine, i guess she dyes it to my color.

yeah if i do boudour pics i would definitely do it with the red hair hahaha. Yeah he met me as a blonde and most of our relationship i was a blonde so he can't say anything lol. He likes the red bc it gives me more of a naughty look, he doesn't like the sweet wholesome look but thats what i said to him, i dont want to have THAT type of look for the wedding lol
