Okay ladies, I love all of the LIW Girls, but I thought it was time that we have a thread dedicated to African American Brides, so that we could discuss wedding and non-wedding related issues that are significant and or relate to women of color. So to start the thread off, could everyone introduce themselves? I am Landra...

Okay Eliana, Cakes will be our official first topic!

Do you mean a black cake as in Chocolate frosting or devil's food cake? Is anybody incorporating cakes that are traditional to our heritage like West Indian Cake or Red Velvet Cake?

Hey Christina!

I was actually talking about the west indian black cake. I plan on making it one of my favors.

As far as the wedding cake it will be red velvet to follow through with my theme.

Did everyone have a chance to see my bio?

I am thinking about having a West Indian Cake my FI's family is Jamaican. What is your theme? I know your colors are red and white right? I think the Black Cake would be great and Red Velvet Cake is yummy. I am always going to Cake Man Raven and the line is always around the corner

Good Mornig Ladies!

My name is Leslie-

To answer the first topic... my FMIL wanted to have the black cake/fruit cake for the wedding cake and I was like NO WAY!! Instead we are going to have the 'light' fruit cake as a favor. I have to have my Butter cream cake for the wedding!!! I can have Black cake in December... as we all now that is a tradition in the West Indian culture.. MY FH family is from Trinidad.

We are not going to jump the broom.

Let's keep this thread moving girls!!!

so what kind of music are we playing at our reception?

Anyone having a caribbean DJ?? I am.. I can't any DJ spin at my wedding.. he has to specialize in our music.. I had a DJ that said oh calypso & reggae music is no prob for me.. my dad married a woman from Trinidad (the DJ was not caribbean)... i'm like that's great! but can you play the music right and do you have all the music that's out right now? he said no!

My DJ actually DJ's at a club in NJ, so you know he has to have all the lastest music and he did my cuz's wedding... so he can do both... FM if you want his info.
